The Board of Associates Starts Off With a Bang The organization meeting of the Board of Associates of the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation, Inc., was held on Saturday, May 28, 1983 at the William Penn Association Branch 1 8 Hungarian Social Club, Lincoln Park, Michigan. Louis Varga, National Vice President acted as temporary chairman during the recruiting period. He expressed gratification in the responses he received and stated that twenty-eight members had joined this charter group. They had all pledged or paid $1,000 to join this illustrious group. Mr. Varga stated that he hoped each member could get another member by the time of our next meeting in May of 1 984. He set a slow pace, but an achievable membership growth of one thousand. He also pointed out that the Board of Associates in no way conflicts with the overall purpose of the general scholarship program and there will be but one treasury. He further stated that by instituting the Associates program it will soon lead to more and larger scholarship grants. He further stated that with our large membership and with the possibility of a merger with the Catholic Knights of St. George this is not an extreme expectation. Mr. Varga then called upon our National President to greet the Associate Board and to act as President Pro-Tern. Mr. Charles greeted the members and was pleased with the large turn out. He said he was encouraged by the enthusiasm shown by this charter group. He envisioned that on the basis of 'Associate get Associate' in the not too distant future the W.P.F.A.S.F., Inc. could have assets of $2,000,000. Mr. Charles, acting as Chairman of the Nominating Committee, nominates the following as officers for the ensuing year. President, Louis L. Varga; Vice President, William C. Kohut; Treasurer, Emma Beganyi; and Albert Stelkovics, Secretary. There being no further nominations, they were declared unanimously elected. Mr. Varga thanked the Associates members for their support and their pledges of $28,000. He asked the Associates members to work in the branches and have many more of our members join in this group. Those wishing to join should contact any one of the officers. Mr. Varga introduced Julius Macker, past President of the William Penn Association; Mr. John Kenawell, Supreme President of the Catholic Knights of St. George and Linda Kenawell. He also introduced Mr. Andre Ludanyi, Professor at the University of Northern Ohio at Ada. He then introduced Andrew Boros- Kazai and Mrs. Boros-Kazai. Mr. Boros-Kazai is Professor of Uralic and Altaic languages at Indiana University. Professor and Mrs. Boros-Kazai are creating a new Hungarian language text book sponsored by the William Penn Association.
