The William Penn Club held their third annual Halloween party, called “Red Garter Saloon”. The men with their ruffled shirts and their garter held sleeves and the women with their ruffled can-can dresses were quite a sight to behold! President Mike Duruttya as master of cermonies and Zack Taylor, Gary Heestand and Clarence Noland, judges of the affair, had quite a time picking the winners of the masqueraders! The winners were: “Miss Piggy”, Dorothy Heestand; Best Couple, “His and Her Out House” were Jeff and Dana Strait; the prettiest clown, was Terri Miller and the ugliest costume went to Glen McClung. A rigatoni dinner was held at the William Penn Club cooked by President Mike Duruttya as head chef and Zack Taylor as his assistant chef. They Some of the Halloween crowd enjoying themselves. really out did themselves, after all with a Hungarian and an Irishman doing the cooking what better combination could there be for cooking an Italian meal!! The Board of Directors and their wives gave a helping hand serving the dinner. Special thanks to Penny Duruttya and Sherri Thomas for giving the Board of Directors wives a helping hand in getting the dinner into full swing. Happy birthday to a very dear lady, Mrs. Ignatz Bara on her 86th birthday. This dear lady is well remembered among the Alliance Hungarians. She is one of the few Hungarians still with us, who used to be active in many of the festivities we had at the William Penn Club. God bless you Mrs. Bara and may the good Lord give you many, many more years of birthdays! President Mike Duruttya opened the election of officers meeting, which took place December 12, at the William Penn Club. All officers were unanimously re-elected. The officers are: President, Mike Duruttya; Vice President, Carl Trumpeter; Secretary, John A. Barany; Treasurer, Zoltán Cibulas; Trustees, John F. Barany and Wilbur Taylor. Nominating committee was Ann Barany and Dorothy Trumpeter was acting secretary. The officers were sworn in by Adrian Amos. Prior to the election of officers a moment of silent prayer was observed in memory of all of the dearly beloved members of Branch 189, who have passed on to their reward. President Duruttya and Treasurer Cibulas were both given an ovation for all of their untiring and successful efforts in carrying out their official duties. Branch Manager Cibulas thanked Managers Pug and Penny Duruttya for the good work they have been doing at the William Penn Club, also, for their great promotional programs for the benefit of the club. Refreshments were served by Penny Duruttya and Jennie Carman, at a table beautifully decorated in the Christmas tradition. Our Christmas party, for the children, was a great success, with 147 children present! President Duruttya with the help of the Board of Directors, led the children in singing Christmas carols. Before the Christmas program began, the Board of Directors and Management presented a basket of fruit to Rosemary Popovich in appreciation for the enjoyable programs she puts on for the children at our Santa (Gary Heestand) with "Pappy Chambers" great granddaughter. Her great grandpappy has been a daily customer of William Penn for the last 60 years. Calls himself an "Irish Hungarian". 19
