Branch 28 — Youngstown, Ohio Branch 24 Chicago, Illinois Branch 24 held its election of officers Sunday, December 12, 1982, at the Ivanhoe Park Fieldhouse, 144th & Stewart in Riverdale, Illinois, at 2:30 p.m. The following members were elected officers for 1983: Charles Akai, President; Paul Novak, Vice President; Bert Garszik, Recording Secretary; Betty Hartly, Treasurer; Betty Akai, Corresponding Secretary & Reporter; Mary Bertok, Auditor. Following our meeting, Branch 24 held its Annual Christmas Party this year. Branch 24 held a grown-ups party. A delicious chicken dinner with all the trimmings was served. All attending spent an enjoyable afternoon. The officers and members of Branch 24 thank the Home Office for the generous allotment which helped make our party a huge success. The officers and members of Branch 24 wish all its fellow members a very prosperous and healthy Happy New Year. Fraternally, Betty Akai, Reporter—Branch 24 Branch 28 Youngstown, Ohio As 1982 draws to a close, it seems like yesterday that we celebrated its beginning. Now again we are at the threshold of a New Year and wondering what is in store for the world, the country, and each of us individual members of the William Penn Association. If we had one wish to be granted in the New Year, it would be that more members would take part in making Branch 28 an active, vibrant part of the Association. As it is now, a few of us older ones shoulder the burden and when we die, what then? Perhaps a reorganization of the entire branch structure should be built into the new year’s picture. Meantime, Branch 28 conducts the usual necessary business such as having the annual prayer service for our deceased members. This year it will be held at St. George Byzantine Catholic Church (Hungarian). Last year, it was held at the Hungarian United Presbyterian Church by Sándor J. Farkas, Minister. On December 11, we had a very nice Christmas Party for the children. Quite a few attended it and we were quite pleased with the turn out. The Youngstown Children’s Civic Theatre Group gave an excellent puppet show, “The Shoemaker and the Elves,” which we all enjoyed as it was well organized and refreshing. After the show, Santa Claus (President, Mike Tomcsak) gave out the gifts as well as the door prizes to each child. The party ended up with a buffet luncheon. We want to thank all the members for their help, especially Mrs. Gabriel Nameth (our Branch Manager’s wife) who did more than her share in helping to make our party a success. This nice picture of the Christmas party group was taken by Frank Schauer. Thanks again to all who helped and attended. In November this reporter and Mike Tomcsak attended a Special Convention as Branch 28 delegates. I am not going to go into details as no doubt it will be written up elsewhere in this issue of William Penn Life. Our only comment is that it was a sad ending to all the hard work that was put into it. The William Penn Association delegates voted unanimously for the merger but that wasn’t enough. However, the future may turn up something better, if the good Lord wills it. In December Branch 28 held its election of officers. As no other members were interested in holding an office, the nominating committee made a motion to retain the same officers for 1983: Michael Tomcsak, President; John Bunchy, Vice President; John Kaluczky, Secretary-Treasurer/Reporter; Helen Kaluczky, Leslie Wash, Auditors. Meetings will continue to be held the 2nd Monday of each month at Our Lady of Hungary Church Hall at 7:30 p.m. It isn’t too early to start thinking about the Annual Bowling Tournament. It will be held in Detroit this year and we are sure that Branch 28 will want to be well represented. We want to wish all the members of William Penn Association a healthy, prosperous, and happy new year. We pray for all those in need. May the Christmas spirit of giving continue throughout the year.
