William Penn Branch 18 Ladies Auxiliary The Ladies Auxiliary held their 20th anniversary dinner on June 26th, Saturday evening at the William Penn Social Club. There were 40 members and 21 guests total attending. Due to President Elvira Kubovics absent being her husband Leslie was in the hospital, she called on Secretary Louise Vespremi to conduct the Anniversary dinner. The dinner was prepared by Julia Danko and Mary Gyorke our faithful members. After the dinner the charter members names were mentioned and ones attending were Martha Balosé, Julia Danko, Jolán Lucas, Helen Madarasz, Irene Mazag, Esther Nagy and Cecelia Vespremi and a minute of silent prayer was for our deceased members. A surprise program by Secretary Louise was put on by calling on members and an old fashion hat style and bag was modeled which brought back memory lanes of shopping in Delray on West Jefferson at reasonable prices. Laughter and singing was had. A group picture was taken by photographer Louis Nemeth. We all hope that we can be together for our 25th anniversary. Our fall meeting will begin on September 20th. Birthdays will be celebrated with members by receiving their pins and dessert will follow. For the summer months our members have traveled. President Elvira with husband after three major surgery went up north to their summer home to relax and fish. Mary Gyorke headed out west to Las Vegas but #7 did not come in and on to California to visit brother Zoltán. Louis Vespremi with sister Esther Nagy, our chauffer brother Sam, visited Ligonier, Pa., the Bethlen Home and later on went to New York and Canada. To our sick members get well cards were sent by Secretary Louise to Marie Énekes, Helen Torok and our old time Secretary Tillie Yambor. Our deepest sympathy goes to one of our honorary members, Anna Somergary in the loss of her husband. One of our faithful members and auditor Margaret New retired from A&P after 30 years of service. Her coworkers surprised her with a retirement party held at the Social Club and members of our Ladies Auxiliary also attended. Good wishes with gifts were bestowed upon her with good health and happy restful days for the rest of her life. Also at this writing, Sam Vespremi, who is a faithful Wm. Penn member and attends all the Social Club functions retired last November 30th at the age of 60 with 40 years of service with Whitehead & Kales in River Rouge. On December 15th his sister Louise gave him a retirement party at the Wm. Penn Social Club with 85 people attending. Good dinner was served and best wishes were bestowed upon him and now he is enjoying his retirement with his sister Louise and doing a lot of traveling. Secretary Louise will sign off for now and will report on the Ladies Auxiliary functions again in the next issue. Branch 28 Youngstown, Ohio The William Penn Bowling Tournament has come and gone—the losers cry and the winners smile, but I am sure that all of the bowlers had a nice miniature vacation. We all want to thank the Cleveland Branch 14 for a job well done. We have been to numerous tournaments and in our opinion this was one of the best. The lanes were good. The buses were comfortable and always right on schedule. The hotel rooms were comfortable. The hospitality room was tops! And the banquet, also. It is this type of planning that keeps the William Penn bowling tournament popular all these years. This reporter attended the scholarship meeting and was pleased as to how well the plan is working. Over $14,000 was donated at this meeting. More members should donate to this worthy cause and help our youth get through college. Branch 28 meetings are still held the second Monday of the month at 7:30 P.M. Our meeting place is at Our Lady of Hungary Church basement. We would like to see more members become active. If you have any insurance problems please come to the meetings, or you can also contact Gabe Nameth. In these past few months we have lost some of our members in death, so we would like to extend our sympathy to these families and express our sorrow. John G.
