December 19-20, 1981 was Governor Dick Thornburgh’s “Holiday Ethnic Weekend” in Harrisburg, Pa. There was a private reception to honor the ethnic leaders of Pennsylvania at the Governor’s mansion. Western Pennsylvania was well represented and graciously received by the Governor and his wife. Dr. Tibor Bodi, Hungarian- American Commissioner, was not in this picture but made the statement that western Pennsylvania is one of the most important hubs of multi- Hungarian activity. He also stated that the Hungarian Ethnic Group is the only mobilized, performing group in Pennsylvania. Both the William Penn Association and Dr. Bodi made contributions to help the Hungarian Ethnic Group make this very eventful trip and performance to the capitol. There were fifteen nationalities represented in the folk dancing. Dr. Bodi stated that this was the first time in over 100 years of ethnic activities in this Pennsylvania capitol that Hungarian folk dancing was performed. The performance was the Szatmári cycle which was choreographed by László Kurd. William Penn Association was represented by medical Director, Dr. Julius Kesseru.
