Minutes of the Board of Directors Quarterly Meeting Excerpts from Minutes of the Third Quarterly Meeting of the Board of Directors of the William Penn Association held on Wednesday, September 8-10, 1982, in the Australia Room of the William Penn Hotel, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 1) National President and Chairman of the Board, Elmer Charles opened the meeting at 10:00 A.M. He welcomed the Board of Directors and National Officers to the fall meeting. It is a very unusual meeting since this is one of the few times that we are meeting away from our Home Office. He announced that Thursday we will meet in the Canadian Room and Friday we will meet in the Australia Room. We should be joyful today as our Vice President, Louis L. Varga, is with us following his hospitalization for major surgery. He stated our prayers have been with our Vice President and will continue to be with him until his full recovery. It is with a sad heart that Mr. Charles announced the passing of former and retired National Treasurer, Julius Somogyi. He was a happy part of our Association. He liked his fellow men and served the Association well. His interest in the Association continued even in his retirement. We must thank God that he did not suffer, but passed away quietly and peacefully. He will be greatly missed by all of us. The Board of Directors and National Officers stood for a moment of silent prayer in memory of Julius Somogyi. Mr. Charles also announced the death of Anthony Tezsia, member of Branch 13, Trenton, New Jersey, who passed away on August 27, 1982. He was Secretary of the St. Stephen Society when it merged with the William Penn Association. Mr. Charles announced the following persons were recently hospitalized: Louis L. Varga, National Vice President; Mrs. Mary Stelkovics, wife of former Secretary/Treasurer, Albert Stelkovics; Mrs. Julius Bero, wife of Director Frank Bero; Mary Szeszak, Home Office Employee. Mr. Charles reported that there is a possibility of negotiating a consolidation between the William Penn Association and the Hungarian Reformed Federation. He will inform the Board whether or not there will be a joint Board of Directors meeting between the two societies. Mr. Charles extended best wishes on behalf of the President of the Hungarian Reformed Federation, Imre Bertalan, for a successful and fruitful Board meeting. Mr. Charles is confident about the results of this Board meeting. The Agenda is prepared and he officially called the meeting to order. 2) The members rose and pledged allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. 3) Vice President, Louis L. Varga, thanked everyone for their get well wishes, cards and prayers during his hospitalization. He offered the following invocation: Our Father, we thank You for Your love and the many good things You have given to William Penn Association and to our friends and families. Help us to show our gratitude by loving one another as You have loved us. Give us patience and understanding to bear with one another; generosity to share our joys and sorrows; honesty to admit our faults and strength to correct them. We entrust our Association to Your care and protection. Help us to grow daily in wisdom and grace. Since we are the guardiens of this society based on brotherly love, make us fiscally responsible, morally principled and sincerely compassionate for those in need and who we serve. Grant us vision, imagination, determination and intelligence to fulfill our task. Lord, grant us Your love and grace and we wish for nothing more. Amen. 4) Secretary of the Board, Frank J. Radvany, called the roll and the following are present: National President, Elmer Charles; National Vice Presidents, John P. Balia and Louis L. Varga; National Secretary/Treasurer, Gus G. Nagy; Directors, Frank Bero, Stephen Danko, Zoltán B. Emri, Michael Hegedűs, Albert C. Kertesz, William C. Kohut, Stephen Lang, Jr., John T. Lesko, Paul Molocko, Frank J. Radvany, John Sabo, Albert J. Stelkovics, Joseph Toma, Frank J. Wukovits, Sr., and General Counsel, Gay B. Banes. 5) Director Zoltán Emri offered a prayer for Vice President, Louis L. Varga, Mary Stelkovics and Julia Bero. 6) Director Albert J. Stelkovics thanked everyone for their get well cards, prayers and best wishes during Mary Stelkovics' illness. It really helped to comfort her as she recuperated. 7) It was moved, seconded and the Board adopted the Agenda with the proviso that any matter properly belonging before this meeting may be added thereto during the course of the meeting. 8) Director Steve Lesco presented a check for $50 to Director Michael Hegedűs who was a winner of a raffle conducted by Branch 14, Cleveland, Ohio during their annual outing. Branch 14 also honored Mr. Charles Hartman as the Fraternalist of the Year from Branch 1 4 at this event. 9) Director Albert J. Stelkovics commenced reading the Minutes of the Executive Committee Meeting OFFICIAL NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS The By-Laws of the William Penn Association provides that at the November Branch Meeting, the Branch President is to appoint a Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee must then make its report to the Branch Meeting in December. Chapter XI, Section 6 of the By-Laws further provides that election of Branch Officers shall be installed into their respective offices at that same meeting. All beneficial members of the Association are cordially invited to attend their respective Branch Meetings, take an active part in the affairs of the Branch and if called upon to serve or to assist, be willing to do this for the good of the Branch, its members and the Association. With everyone cooperating, we can achieve wonders as a Fraternal Benefit Society. 1 8
