John P. Balia President, Branch 296 Branch 500 Detroit, Michigan June 8, 1980 will remain a memorable day for the members of Branch 500, for it was on this day that MRS. MARY KOLISH, Secretary- Treasurer of Branch 500 was honored for her more than 40 years of diligent and faithful service to the Association. The dinner, at which she was honored, was served in the lovely Branch 18 Social Home. Officers of Branch 500, Officers of Branch 18, family members and friends were in attendance. A delicious meal was served, family style by the able Social Home manager Stephen Szatmári and his able staff. The program was opened by Mr. Stephen Danko, President of Branch 18 and National Director. He welcomed one and all to this happy occasion and was pleased that his Branch could host a sister William Pehn Branch from Detroit on such a fine occasion. He then called upon former National President, Mr. Julius Macker to speak in Hungarian, and recall the many services Mrs. Kolish had rendered to the Branch and its members. After this, National Secretary Albert J. Stelkovics spoke, reciting the many accomplishments of Mrs. Kolish, particularly in the field of enrolling members. It was no easy task when Branch 500 was organized to go out and recruit new members, but she persisted in her efforts and was well rewarded by having the Branch membership increase each year. Mr. Stelkovics then presented to her the ILLUSTRIOUS CITATION, the highest award the Board of Directors can bestow upon a William Penn member. Mrs. Kolish was awarded this citation for her long and honorable service first of all to her Branch members and then to her Association which she still serves to this day as Secretary-Treasurer of Branch 500. Mrs. Kolish then responded to the Citation and mentioned some of the difficulties she encountered going out to recruit new members when all she had was a will and determination to make this Branch grow and prosper. She expressed appreciation to the Board for recognizing her services. It was truly a fine day of tribute, Mrs. Kolish deserves all of the accolades given to her that day. We who were privileged to be part of the ceremony wish Mrs. Kolish continued good health so that she can carry on her good deeds of fraternalism. 16
