First Hungarian Astronaut BERTALAN FARKAS Recently the world or at least those who are not familiar with our Hungarian ancestry tradition and achievement were surprised about a story of a Hungarian orbiting the earth. Taking part in a space flight was a young Hungarian by the name of Bertalan Farkas, born at Gyulahaza in County Szabolcs-Szatmar in 1949. After finishing primary school, he matriculated at the Berzsenyi György secondary vocational school at Kisvarda. He decided to choose flying as his vocation. After graduating from secondary school in 1967, he became a student at the Kilian György College for Aviation Technology. In 1972, he was made Second-Lieutenant, and was assigned to a flighting unit of the Hungarian Air Force. To the long list of Hungarians who achieved in the field of music, religion, literature, science, medicine and the fields go on and on and on, we now add the name of Bertalan Farkas, our first Hungarian astronaut. It makes one proud to come from the Hungarian heritage. ^JeróeU Got a raise and doing great? That’s fine but do be sensible. Keep improving though you rate, ‘Cause no one’s indispensable.
