Nicholas Novak, Pastor of the First Hungarian Reformed Church, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 3) The assembly pledged allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. 4) The assembly sang the National Anthem led by Mr. George Charles, Jr. and the Magyar Himnusz led by Mr. Stephen T. Szilagyi, Vice President of Marketing. 5) Mr. Charles welcomed everyone present in the following address: Delegates, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen: The sound of the gavel officially opened the 29th General Convention and it is my privilege, honor and joy to greet you with the first verse of the 133rd Psalm: “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in Unity.” As your President, I thank God every day for the honor and privilege accorded me sixteen years ago to serve as President of our beloved Association. During this four year term of my office, I was honored by my fellow board members by electing me as Board Chairman. The mandate of the last convention is established in Chapter III, Section One of the by-laws where it is stated that: “The Convention Chairman shall be the National President, the two Vice-Chairmen shall be the two elected National Vice Presidents and the Secretary of the Convention shall be the Secretary of the Board.” So, as the Chairman of this Convention, Board Chairman and your President, I am most happy and proud to greet and welcome you with this Godly word, “Isten Hozott”. I am also privileged to extend greetings on behalf of my fellow officers, National Secretary-Treasurer, Albert J. Stelkovics; National Vice Presidents, John P. Balia and Louis L. Varga; members of the Board of Directors, and Auditing Committee Members. May your days in Pittsburgh continue to be pleasant, your participation in every deliberation a joy. The Presidency and Chairmanship of this Convention is a position of honor, trust and dignity. So, chairing this convention with my two Vice Presidents and Board Secretary is a joyful privilege. I assure you that it will be conducted with the spirit of unity, honor and dignity. Let us remember that in Unity there is Strength, in Strength there is Security; where there is Security, there is no Fear; where there is no Fear, there is no Hate; and where there is no Hate, there is Love. 6) Mr. Charles called for the report of the Credentials Committee, which is as follows: REPORT OF THE CREDENTIALS COMMITTEE Mr. Chairman, Fellow Delegates: Mr. Elmer Charles, National President, in compliance with Chapter III, Section 4 of the by-laws has appointed the undersigned Credentials Committee. We, the appointed Credentials Committee hereby certify that thirtyone (31) Delegate Districts and fifteen (15) Area Delegate Districts Secretaries reports of election of delegates were submitted to the National Secretary and approved. Mrs. Helen Nemeth, Chairperson of the National Auditing Committee, an ex-officio delegate, resigned her office June, 1979 due to illness and disability. In accordance with Chapter IV, Section 5 of the by-laws, Mr. Elmer Charles, Naitonal President, filled the vacancy created by Mrs. Nemeth’s resignation with Mrs. Violet Lenart, first Alternate Auditing Committee member elected at the 28th General Convention. Because Mrs. Lenart had been elected a delegate from District #15, McKeesport, Pa. her elevation to Auditing Committee Member created a vacancy in the delegate representation of District #15. Accordingly, the first alternate delegate of District #15, Mr. Edward Rietski, was called to serve as delegate to this 29th General Convention. Mrs. Mary Emody, elected delegate of Area Delegate District #32, New Jersey, informed National President Charles under date of August 18th, that she would be unable to attend the Convention. Accordingly, Mr. John Suth, first Alternate of Area Delegate District #32 has been called as delegate to this General Convention. Mrs. Judith Dean, elected delegate District #1 on August 29th advised the Home Office that she was unable to attend the Convention. On August 29, 1979, Mrs. Jacqueline Veader, first Alternate Delegate was called to serve, however no response was received, thus there is no alternate to replace Judith Dean. Mr. Louis Janik, Director and Vice President of American Life Insurance Association, as Advisory Board member of William Penn Association notified the Home Office that due to disability he will not be able to attend the 29th General Convention. Stephen Ivancso, District #21, Toledo, Ohio, could not be present, therefore, his alternate, Mary Ivancso is present. Barbara Foley, District #1, on Sunday afternoon September 9, 1979 reported via phone that due to illness in family she could not be present and no alternate could be called. There are, therefore, ninety-one (91) elected delegates, twenty-two (22) exofficio members, namely, four (4) National Officers, twelve (12) Directors, six (6) Auditing Committee Members and two (2) former American Life Insurance Association Directors for a grand total of one hundred fifteen (115) votes.
