The Board discussed this request and decided that in accordance with its rules and regulations the Association could not honor this request, member is entitled to benefits only as prescribed in the Sick Benefit Rules and Regulations. 31) The Board acknowledged receipt of the following letters of thanks: Mario R. LiVolsi Family and John L. Lovász Family on their recent bereavement. Juliann Eveges thanked the Association for her scholarship grant and the opportunity afforded for summer employment. Those student members who received scholarship grants. The Home Office Employees thanked Mr. Charles for the hospitality he extended them on their recent outing at his home. Magyar Cserkesz Szövetség for the recent donation. The Calvin Synod for our donation to their summer youth camp program. Mr. Coloman Bertalan thanked the Board for Hs concern for the welfare of its retired employees. His request will be considered at a later date. 32) Secretary Stelkovics reports that the Awards Committee consisting of the Officers and Executive Committee of the William Penn Fraternal Scholarship Foundation, Inc. granted 24 continuation scholarships of $200.00 each. Nine additional requests were received but these arrived after the May 31, 1977 deadline, thus could not be considered. Thirty-four new applications were received and 26 awards were granted at $200.00 each. Scholarship awards were issued in $200.00 sums on the basis of a Board ruling. Total grants awarded, 50 at $200.00 each. Report is acknowledged by the Board of Directors. 33) National Secretary Albert J. Stelkovics read the Medical Report for the period of January 1, 1977 to June 30, 1977 of Medical Director Gregory M. Lang, M.D. The report was accepted with thanks and placed on file. 34) Vice President of Membership Services Gus G. Nagy submitted a verbal report on the 1977 Bowling Tournament. He stated that total expense amounted 35) Moved, seconded and the Board unanimously voted to refer the matter of future Bowling Tournaments to the Executive Committee for an in depth study of how this fraternal activity can attract more participants. 36) The Board heard a report on the Sick Benefit program. The Board referred this matter to the Executive Committee and Actuary for evaluation and requested they come forth with a recommendation as to its final disposition. 37) The National Secretary informed the Board that the State of Wisconsin now requires that fraternals must report on all Branch fraternal activities and document same with the insurance department in the annual statement. Mr. Stelkovics suggested we use the forms as prepared by the National Fraternal Congress of America for Branch Reporting. The Board of Directors, as in the past, has a keen interest in Branch activities and upon motion made and seconded requests all Branches to properly complete and submit the activities form to the National Secretary by the date to be specified. 38) Vice President of Marketing Stephen T. Szilagyi submited a verbal report on the activities of his department and the proposed plans for future activities he has established. The Board acknowledged his report. 39) The Board acknowledged a report that the Pennsylvania Legislature unanimously adopted the Uniform Fraternal Code and was signed into law by Governor Shapp. The Association was represented at the formal signing by National President Elmer Charles, National Vice President John P. Balia and General Counsel Gay B. Banes. Moved, seconded and the Board authorized that a resolution be prepared and spread upon the Minutes commending National President Elmer Charles and General Counsel Gay B. Banes for their efforts which was instrumental in the adoption of this code. 40) The Board is pleased to learn that the American Hungarian Foundation, New Brunswick, New Jersey has selected Mr. Elmer Charles, National President to receive the 1977 Theodore Von Karman award, presentation will be made November 30, 1977. The Board congratulates Mr. Charles for this recognition and on motion made and seconded the Board voted that the William Penn Association be properly represented at the awards ceremony. 41) Director Frank Bero thanked the Board of Directors and National Officers for selecting Bridgeport, Connecticut for this Board meeting. The business Agenda, which was lengthy, was completed very satisfactorily. The social agenda was planned for the benefit of everyone concerned and he hoped everyone had a most enjoyable time. It was his pleasure to entertain everyone. 42) Director Sabo thanked Vice President Louis L. Varga and Director Frank Bero for their personal effort in making this a very successful meeting. He requested the National Secretary to forward letters of appreciation to these two persons and their wives and to Branch 1, Bridgeport, Connecticut for their kind hospitality. 43) National President Elmer Charles expressed his personal thanks and appreciation to Branch 1, Vice President Varga, Director Bero and to the Board of Directors for the huge success of the business agenda of the past few days. He felt that we concluded a most meaningful meeting. Venturing away from Pittsburgh was well worthwhile. The close social ties created by this meeting will prove fruitful in the future.
