Minutes of The Board of Directors Quarterly Meeting Excerpts From Minutes Of The Third Quarterly Meeting Of The William Penn Association Directors Held On Septem­ber 12-14, 1977, At The Holiday Inn, Lafayette Square, Bridgeport, Conn. 1) National President Elmer Charles opened the meeting at 10:00 A.M. He welcomes the Board of Directors, Na­tional Officers, their wives and guests to the third quarterly meeting which is be­ing held in Bridgeport, Connecticut. This is the first time in the history of the William Penn Association that the Board meeting was held outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He thanked Vice President Louis L. Varga and his wife, Valerie, for the cordial hospitality they extended at their home on Sunday, September 11, 1977 for entertaining members of the official family. The theme of the National Fraternal Congress is: “Fraternalism is a Family Affair.” This is a most fitting theme be­cause our Association is a family. With­out the help and support of the wives and family members we would not be able to fulfill our obligations and re­sponsibilities. William Penn Association made the headlines in the news media by meeting here in Bridgeport, Connecticut. This meeting in Bridgeport helps create good relationship among the branch member­ship. President Charles welcomed the two Vice Presidents, Mr. Gus G. Nagy and Mr. Stephen T. Szilagyi, who just recently returned from the second tour to Hun­gary which the Association sponsored. The pilgrimage, which they escorted to our homeland, was most successful and every member who participated in this pilgrimage had a most enjoyable trip. The performances of the Vice Presidents were outstanding and their efforts are deeply appreciated. Chairman Charles indicated that the business agenda is prepared and he is looking forward to a pleasant few days in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He expressed sincere condolences upon the death of the following members: Mrs. Mary Vasas, widow of late Jo­seph Vasas, Supreme Secretary-Rakoczi. Andrew Chovets, former Branch Man­ager, Branch R-153, Los Angeles, Calif. Steven Rock, President former Branch V-289, Chicago, llinois. Bert Szilagyi, former Recording Sec­retary, Branch 14, Cleveland, Ohio. The members stood for a moment of silent prayer in memory of our deceased members. Mr. Charles announced the following were hospitalized since our last meeting: Julius E. Somogyi, National Treasurer WilliamI C. Kohut, National Director Eva Lehoczky, Home Office Employee Margaret Vassy, Manager, Branch 249, Dayton, Ohio. Still on the disabled list is Helen Ne­meth, Chairperson of the National Audit­ing Committee. Mr. Charles informed the members that the Auditing Committee is meeting in Pittsburgh. They extended best wishes to the Board of Directors for a fruitful meeting. 2) The members and guests present pledged allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. 3) President Charles introduced Rev­erend Emil Nagy, Pastor of the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Bridge­port, Connecticut who offered the invo­cation. 4) After the invocation, Rev. Nagy stated it was a thrill and joy for him to be present at this Board meeting. He stated he was originally from Pennsyl­vania. He reminisced about the history of the Verhovay and Rákóczi for a few minutes along with the other Hungarian Societies and Churches. He extended best wishes for a successful meeting. 5) The guests were excused from the meeting room at this time. 6) Secretary of the Board Frank J. Radvany called the roll and the follow­ing were present: National President Elmer Charles, Na­tional Vice Presidents Louis L. Varga and John P. Balia; Directors Frank Bero, Stephen Danko, Zoltán B. Emri, Michael Hegedűs, Albert G. Kertesz, William C. Kohut, Stephen Lang, Jr., Steve Lesco, Frank J. Radvany, John Sabo, Joseph Toma, and Frank J. Wuko­­vits, Sr.; National Secretary Albert J. Stelkovics, General Counsel Gay B. Banes, Vice President of Membership Services Gus G. Nagy and Vice Presi­dent of Marketing Stephen T. Szilagyi. National Treasurer Julius E. Somogyi was absent. 7) The Agenda is adopted with the proviso that any matter properly belong­ing before the meeting may be added thereto during the course of the meeting. 8) The Board of Directors adopted the following resolution pertaining to John T. Lesko, Branch No. 1, Bridgeport, Connecticut RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Fraternal Benefit System has a history of serving the cause of our fellow men, and WHEREAS, many individual fraternal benefit societies have recorded in their minutes the loyal and tireless efforts of its Officers, Directors or Outstanding Members, and WHEREAS, MR. JOHN T. LESKO, a member of WILLIAM PENN ASSOCI­ATION, BRANCH 1, BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT, has been serving the members of the Bridgeport, Connecticut area for more than fifty years, and WHEREAS, MR. JOHN T. LESKO unstintingly gave of his time and efforts to further the cause of the American Life Association merger with William Penn Association, and WHEREAS, the BOARD OF DIREC­TORS of WILLIAM PENN ASSOCIA­TION are proud of the achievements of MR. JOHN T. LESKO and recognizes his many-sided accomplishments in serv­ing our membership. NOW, THEREFORE, BE AND IT IS HEREBY UNANIMOUSLY RESOLVED by the BOARD OF DIRECTORS of WILLIAM PENN ASSOCIATION in regular meeting assembled in Bridge­port, Connecticut, this 12TH day of SEP­TEMBER, 1977 the WILLIAM PENN ASSOCIATION is honored to have MR. JOHN T. LESKO as a member and fra­­ternalist friend and on behalf of the WILLIAM PENN ASSOCIATION OF­FICERS, DIRECTORS and MEMBERS extend to him heartfelt thanks for dedi­cated service to our WILLIAM PENN MEMBERSHIP. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the WIL­LIAM PENN ASSOCIATION has caused its corporate seal and signatures of its principal Officers to be affixed thereto. Albert J. Stelkovics, National Secretary Elmer Charles, National President 9) Vice President Louis L. Varga in­formed the Board of Directors that a Cardinal Mindszenty Memorial Fund has been established in Fairfield, Connecti­cut, for the purpose of establishing Mindszenty Square. This fund is being supported by the various churches and societies in this area. Moved, seconded, and the Board of Directors unanimously authorized a $500.00 donation to this fund.
