Western Pennsylvania Scholarship Dinner-Dance This year the Branches of Western Pennsylvania held their Dinner-Dance much later in the year to make sure that the weather was nice and for a change the dance was held on a Friday night and was tremendously successful. This Dinner-Dance is held each year for the benefit of the Scholarship Foundation by Branch 34, Pittsburgh, Pa., Branch 71, Duquesne, Pa., Branch 89, Homestead, Pa., Branch 226, McKeesport, Pa. and Branch 296, Springdale, Pa. The net proceeds turned over to the Scholarship Foundation amounted to $807.65. It is fraternal activities such as this plus the good hearted contributions of our members that will assure the growth of our Scholarship Foundation. REMEMBER? Scholarship Awards We are pleased to publish the pictures of those William Penn members who were awarded scholarship grants by the Awards Committee recently. Twenty-four student members were awarded continuation grants of $200.00 each for the 1977-78 academic year. The Awards Committee also provided twentysix $200.00 scholarship grants to new applicants. The Officers and Directors of the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation, Inc. wishes to congratulate all those who were awarded grants and wish them success in their chosen field of endeavor. Our best wishes go to them for successfully completing their academic courses. This is the first time the Scholarship Foundation has been in a position to increase the size of the grant. It is our fervent hope that with the continued donations from our many members and friends the Scholarship Fund will continue to grow thus enabling the Awards Committee to grant more and larger scholarship grants to our deserving member students. We particularly call to the attention to all William Penn Association members that the Association has provided means for each member to make a donation to the Scholarship Fund when they pay their premium. A space has been provided on the premium notice to which you can add your contributions. All contributions regardless of size are gratefully accepted and all are acknowledged and receipted for. ❖ si« 5!« Pictures of the William Penn members receiving scholarship grants are published on the adjacent page. We received the picture below at the Home Office from the brother-in-law of John L. Lovász, Administrator Assistant to the National Treasurer. A1 Zero lives in the Scranton area and cut this item out of the local paper. This Baseball Team represented Branch 174 of Scranton, Pennsylvania which is still in existence today and is Managed by George Horvath. It would be interesting to know how many of these young men from that day 39 years later are still active in the William Penn Association, the successor to Verhovay Aid Association. Anyone having any information about these ball players should write directly to the Home Office.
