Saturday, September 10th, 1977, we attended the 4th Annual Hungarian Festival at the Garden State Arts Center, Holmdel, New Jersey where many outstanding Hungarians performed and exhibited their works. It was a very warm and beautiful day enjoyed by approximately 6,000 Hungarians and friends not only from New Jersey, but Connecticut, New York, and Pennsylvania. Our William Penn Association was represented and the chairman announced our participation during the introductions.

Among the exhibiting artists was one of our Branch 19 members, Mr. Joseph Krasznai, Sr., whose beautiful woodcuts were prominently displayed. He had many, but the most famous are of the Capitol, Washington, D.C., the Parliament, Budapest and the Vajda Hunyad Castle, Budapest. He made them into approximately 5 feet by 3% feet woodcuts from 5% by SVz inch picture postcards. Another was the woodcut of the Disneyland Cinderella Castle in Florida.

The Officers of the Branch have designated December 4, 1977 as the date for Election of Officers of this Branch for the year of 1978. All adult members are urged to attend. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

Our Annual Christmas Party for the children of our Branch will be held on December 11, 1977. An enjoyable afternoon is promised and “Old Santa” has promised to show up and will distribute gifts to those present. So children, make every effort to attend and bring your parents along, too. Refreshments will also be served afterwards.

Both of the above mentioned affairs will be held at the President Palace Hall, 115 President Street, Passaic, N.J., at 2 P.M. PROMPT.

With the passing of the warm and humid summer season behind us, most everyone will be resuming their fall and winter activities. We are making preparations for our Annual Fall Dinner Dance, to be held Saturday, November 19th, 1977, commencing at 7:00 P.M. sharp. The place, The United German Hungarian Club’s modern facilities — Spruce Ave. and Bristol Road, Oakford, Pa. Music for the occasion will be furnished by the well known and popular, Turoczi’s Continental Orchestra.

We wish to extend our cordial invitation to our friends locally and the nearby Branches. The affairs have been well attended as many old friends meet in a congenial atmosphere, as the proceeds also help to support the William Penn Scholarship Foundation.

Reservations should be made on or before Saturday, November 12th, with our Branch Manager, Steve Szemes, 428 Maplewood Road, Springfield, Pa., Tel. 543-8878.

We are sorry to report our well known and energetic News Reporter, Helen Schenkel, is at this time a patient in Jeanes Hospital, for tests and observation. We sincerely hope her illness is not of a serious nature and wish her a swift and full recovery. We miss her congenial and lively personality. Please drop Helen a line or call her to wish her well to show we care.

The Officers and members of Branch 296 congratulate the women bowlers who won first prize in Class “C” at the Pennsylvania Womens State Championship held in York, Pennsylvania June 11 and 12, 1977. We picture here the winning team captained by Mary Wesoloski and the other members are Mary Suzio, Jenny Wislie, Janet Girard and Helen Gosicejen. They won a prize of $190.00. In Class “D” the William Penn 296 Belles captained by Charlotte Greenwald whose members are Leona Jaracz, Sandy Greenwald, Bonnie Greenwald and Carol Chelko won $190.00 prize also. Mary Wesoloski and Mary Suzio won $30.00 in the Doubles and Mary Suzio won $5.00 in the Singles. Our lady bowl(Continued on Page Twelve)
