Radvany Secretary, Branch 13 14 CLEVELAND, O. Congratulations and good wishes are extended to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Balog who on May 1, 1977 celebrated the 30th anniversary of their marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Balog are formerly of Leckrone, Pennsylvania and now reside in Cleveland, Ohio and are members of our Branch 14. 18 DETROIT, MICH. The busy spring schedule of Branch 18 included a very successful Champagne Ball held on April 30 with music provided by Frank Borisz and his continental orchestra. The late buffet was most appetizing. A gala evening ensued with much comraderie felt by all the guests. The Ladies Auxiliary held their annual Card Party on May 11. Three hundred ladies plus a nice sprinkling of men had a joyous evening of fellowship. Calorie laden strawberry törte was the dessert with much coffee and tea. The tables were festively decorated with bright, colorful red geraniums which lucky winners later claimed as their table prizes. Many more opportunities presented themselves with over 120 door prizes and more than 35 raffle prizes. For all those who recall the fabulous fifties with tlieir saddle oxfords, drindl skirts, pegged bottom pants, and jitterbug, May 19 was a RED LETTER DAY. The Dance of the 50’s with a real live disc jockey to spin the platters made our club house rock with the songs and dances of a by-gone era. Many of the participants ravaged their closets and trunks wearing the real authentic garb of this period. How enthused can guests bell! Memorial Weekend found six teams (3 men and 3 women) from Branch 18, pooling their strikes and spares at the annual William Penn Tournament. An enjoyable weekend with some sight seeing of our nation’s capitol, much excellent dining, plus the additional dividend of renewing past fellowships with other William Reunites. Bill Papp and Mary Molnár brought home some laurels of victory. But most important, we hope to see you next year when Detroit hosts the National William Penn Tournament. Arrangements you have never believed will be yours for the taking. Although JUNE has brought warm days and vacation plans with it — ALL our membership has NOT succumbed to leisurely and relaxed living. We have continued our activities in full swing. First, the William Penn Social Club held a Card Party on June 20. The proceeds of this successful event are being used to purchase necessary equipment for the kitchen. The lovely table decorations, potted plants, were used as table prizes later in the evening. Dessert was an array of Hungarian pastries, Put this event on your social calendar as these card parties will be held every other month during the fall and winter months. For those of you who like to trip the light fantastic and experience true gourmet cousine, July 9 is a gala affair to attend. The club is having a dinnerdance; the menu is palate tempting with Hortobágyi palacsinta (crepes filled with meat and mushroom sauce), rantot borjú (breaded veal cutlets) and lecsos disznó (Hungarian pepper steak). The Internationals will render music for all tastes and agile nimble feet. Do join us. For the convenience and added comfort as well as appreciation of our membership the club had added new lighting dimensions. Above the pool table lights, designed and constructed by Jim Burenda, have been placed so that our cue experts can visualize all their strategy. Meanwhile, coachmen lights have been installed by Steve P. Danko to give added subdued lighting and atmosphere to our cozy quarters. The officers and membership are working diligently at making the July 24 Hungarian Festival (Aratasi Picnic), the biggest and best ever. Music will be furnished by the Melodia’s (Fraternal Brothers) with special entertainment by the Hungarian Reform Dancers under the direction of Mrs. Velma Szabó providing native folk dances for your viewT- ing pleasure. Authentic ethnic food from the stuffed cabbage to pecsenye and kolbász with langos and túrós beles as well as the old standby of hot dogs for the youngsters will be available. A great day is in the offing at Liberty Park for all Hungarians and our friends. Do come and join us. With foresight to the fall season, a youth director will be coordinating a new youth orchestra under the directorship of Joe Balint; a young peoples dance and song troupe to teach our younger generation their ethnic heritage; and the possibilities of a soccer team. Since our mixed bowling league has become so popular and our waiting list grows lengthier every seasan. Branch 18 will have a DOUBLE league this fall. The two leagues will bowl on alternate Sundays, offering even more fellowship and competition in our forthcoming tournament. HELEN E. DANKO To illustrate interest and dedication to our own particular communities, Helen E. Danko, who is also secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary, has been elected to serve on the Wyandotte Board of Education for a four year term. Helen showed good campaigning by winning by a wide margin over two incumbents. Congratulations and much success and insight on your term of office. NOW — your reporter — will take a slight breather, set aside her journalistic pencil and then push up her sleeves and help with all of the projects in the offing. Branch 18, Detroit 12
