19 NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ. On Saturday, June 5th, William Penn Branch 19 took part in celebrating our Country’s 200th Birthday in New Brunswick, N.J., under the sponsorship of the Hungarian Civic Association with approximately 8,000 in attendance in an all day Festival beginning with a parade at 10 o’clock in the morning. There were booths displaying Hungarian arts and culture, dancing groups performing, foods, refreshments and also mementos until 10 o’clock at night. On Saturday, September 11th, the William Penn Association was represented at the 3rd Annual Hungarian Festival at the N.J. Garden State Art Center, by National Director and Mrs. Michael Hegedűs of Branch 19 and National Auditor and Mrs. Michael Hrabar of Branch 16. The display of the 36”x48” framed handwork of Rákóczi picture was exhibited under which the history of the merger .and growth of the William Penn Association was written. It was a very beautiful day with over 6,000 in attendance and the program was excellent. As of July our meetings are held at the Hungarian Civic Association, 208 Somerset Street, New Brunswick, N.J. They are held on the first Monday of the month commencing at 7:00 o’clock. Congratulations are in order to Branch 19 Bowlers, we heal’d that they came in, in first place at the Bowling Tournament. We still have some Cook Books “Hungarian Specialties and Other Favorites”. Due lo the many losses of the cook books through 4th class mail, they are being sent Insured, that, plus the increase in mailing charges is the reason for the increase in the total cost. They are available at $3.20 per book. To date we have given from the sale of the cook books to the National Scholarship Foundation $3,000.00. Julia (Kadar) Kun and Steve Kun, Sr. were born in Tornagorgo, Abauj megye in 1895. They were married on May 26, 1914 in Hungary and emigrated to this country in 1921, settling on Chicago’s south side where they still reside. After 62 years of married life, both are 81 and still busy and active in church and social activities. Mr. Kun is very proud of his garden filled with an array of fruits, vegetables and flowers. Mrs. Kun is most proud of her delicious Hungarian cooking and her beautiful embroidery and stitchery work. Neither one can offer any “secret formula” for their longevity nor their wedded bliss except to say that the Lord has been good to them in giving them a healthy and happy life thus far. The Kun’s are blessed with 6 children: Steve Kun, Jr., William Kun, Paul Kun, Julia Melnyk, Mary Igyarto and Lester Kun; fourteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Mr. Kun retired from the Pullman Car Company after 35 years of service. He and his wife are both William Penn members. We wish the Kuns continued good health and happiness. 28 YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO Members of Youngstown, Branch 28 would like to express their gratitude to National President Charles, National Secretary Stelkovics and also the Home Office staff for their hard work which made it possible for us to share this never to be forgotten trip to Hungary. Some of us may never be back to normal again. Our group stayed together through the impressive “land tour”. We enjoyed the best hotels, wines and Gypsy Music with our meals. We also had the pleasure of sharing this event with other wonderful William Penn members. Thank God there is a William Penn Association. National President, Mr. Charles, we want to share your sadness and regret to hear that “Arpod" jumped out of the plane and is still running loose. The dog only understands the Hungarian language.
