THE WILLIAM PENN FRATERNAL ASSOCIATION • PITTSBURGH PA. 15219 • PHONE (412) 281-8950 VOLUME 11JANUARY, 1976 NUMBER 1 Bicentennial Trip To Hungary In the October issue of William Penn Life we published details of the Bicentennial Trip to Hungary. There have been certain changes authorized by the Board of Directors. It has been determined that so long as one William Penn Member participates in the Tour, other immediate family members may take the tour even though they are mot benefit William Penn members, however, these non-members must become social members of the Branch. The annual social membership dues is $10.00 per person, adult or juvenile. Children are welcome to participate in the Trip, by paying full fare. Starting dates of the two trips leaving Pittsburgh International Airport are Monday August 16, 1976 between 7:00 and 9:00 P.M. The airfare is $380.00 round trip. The second Trip leaves Monday, September 13, 1976 between 7:00 and 9:00 P.M. The airfare round trip is $405.00 All members coming to Pittsburgh from other cities should plan their arrival so that they arrive in Pittsburgh at least 2 hours before flight time. All members desiring to take the Trip must obtain their own passports through their local Post Office. Anyone planning to rent a car should obtain an International Driver’s License through AAA. Those wanting to rent a car while in Hungary should request information from the Home Office well in advance. All participants pay all of their other expenses such as hotels, meals, transportation etc. in Hungary. The airfare quoted merely provides transportation from Pittsburgh to Budapest and return. Those who will participate in the one week land tour will pay $155.00 for the 7 day tour in Hungary which includes hotel, meals and transportation for that one week. In the previous issue we had quoted $145.00 based on 1975 costs in Hungary. The first of this year the cost was increased to $155.00 For the other 2 weeks everyone must pay their own expenses. If anyone during this 2 week period wishes to visit a neighboring country to Hungary, the Association will assist in making necessary arrangements. Those who plan to visit another country must obtain a double entry visa to Hungary. The one week land tour in the Trans-Danubia (Dunántúl) part of Hungary is a marvelous economical and worthwhile tour. Each National Director and Auditing Committee member of the Association has been appointed a Local Tour Administrator for this Bicentennial Trip. They will advise you about obtaining passports, International Driver’s Licenses, group air travel to Pittsburgh, details on membership campaign, etc. Many inquiries have been received about a 2-week trip to Hungary only. We have requested PAN-AM to change the September 13th trip to a 2 week trip instead of 3 weeks, but as of this date we do not have a reply, however, information will be available in the April issue of William Penn Life. There are many questions as to why participants in the trip can not leave from continued on Page 3 Pennsylvania Fraternal Congress The 64th Annual Meeting of the Pennsylvania Fraternal Congress was held in Pittsburgh, Pa. November 17 and 18. The Pennsylvania Fraternal Congress is the largest State Fraternal Congress in the Country. The William Penn Association is a vital part of this Congress. There were 2 days of informative business sessions followed by a banquet. We were honored to have as our principal speaker Hon. William J. Sheppard, Insurance Commissioner, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. One of the other principal speakers was Hon. Leonard F. Chapman, Jr., Commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization Service. Elected to the Executive Committee of the Pennsylvania Fraternal Congress was our National President, Mr. Elmer Charles who in the past has been a motivating force on this Committee and he proposes to expend all of his energies towards the adoption of a Uniform Fraternal Code which effort is supported by the Insurance Department and many Fraternals.
