MINUTES OF THE 28th GENERAL CONVENTION Pamela Nemeth Miss Nemeth recently received “Gold Wings” for five years service with American Airlines. She also received her second “Professional Flight Attendant” award. Mr. Hart is also employed by American Airlines Both are based in Chicago. 248 MONAVILLE, W.VA. The Wagners celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary recently at the home of their son Fred. Mr. and Mrs. Wagner were married June 27, 1925 in Butler, Pa. She is the former Margaret Gyöngyösi. Mr. Wagner retired as an employee of Yoimgstown Mines Corp. They have six children Fred, Mrs. Frank Pozega, Mrs. John Veres, Andrew, Robert and James. They have 13 grand-children. Three people who attended their wedding were also present for this Anniversary: Mrs. Ellen Barker who was maid of honor, also Mr. and Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Wagner Excerpts from Minutes of the 28th General Convention of the William Penn Association held Monday, September 8, 1975, in the Pittsburgh room of the William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Steve Vargo of Parks Mills, W. Va. Mr. Wagner has been President of Branch 248, for many years and came to the USA. from Turtelepes, Szatmár megye, Hungary. We, at William Penn Association congratulate the Wagners on their anniversary and w ish for them continued health and happiness. 296 SPRINGDALE, PA. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Szalai Springdale, Pa. quietly observed the 60th anniversary of their marriage on August 14, 1975 with only Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Szalai the immediate family present. Mr. Szalai migrated to the U.S.A. from Sonkád, Szatmár megye (Hungary) while Mrs. Joseph Szalai nee Julia Banyai migrated from Atya, Szatmár megye (Hungary). Mr. Szalai for many years was an active Officer of Branch 296, and after his retirement from Duquesne Light Co., was the custodian of the old Verhovay Home Office Building in Pittsburgh until its demolition in 1966. The Szalais have 4 children, Sue, Elizabeth, Mary and Emory and 4 grand-children Jimmy and Cathy Madaja, also Dianne and Sharon Szalai. Their son is a well known architect and Sue is with the Citizens General Hospital. We join with the family in wishing Mr. and Mrs. Szalai good health on their anniversary. 1. The 28th General Convention was called to order at 9:30 A.M. by Mr. Elmer Charles, National President. 2. Singing of the National Anthem and Magyar Himnusz was led by Miss Helen Stipkovits, Branch 226, McKeesport, Pa., accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Vincent Shatlock. 3. Invocation was by Rev. Father Paul Bolvary, O.S.P., Assistant Pastor, St. Ann’s Hungarian Roman Catholic Church of Hazelwood, Pa. 4. The assembly pledged allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. 5. Mr. Elmer Charles, National President extended greetings to the members of the General Convention. His message is attached to and made a part of these minutes. 6. Telegraphic greetings were extended to the Convention by the President of the United States of America, Gerald R. Ford. 7. Letter of greeting was received from the Honorable Milton J. Shapp, Governor, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Both greetings are referred to the Resolutions Committee. 8. Mr. Charles calls forthe report of the Credentials Committee, which is as follows: Mr. Chairman, Fellow Delegates: The undersigned Credentials Committee, hereby certify that thirty-eight (38) Delegate District and ten (10) Area Delegate District Secretaries reports on election of delegates were checked and verified. In Delegate District #15, Branch 26, Sharon, Pennsylvania, Mr. Steve Dobozi, elected Delegate, died July 6, 1975, and the Alternate Delegate, Mrs. Charles Dobay, was called to serve as Delegate. In Delegate District #1, Delegate Jacqueline Veader could not attend. Mary Bourke, Alternate Delegate, was called to replace her, however, neither Mrs. Bourke nor Charles Huntington, the only other alternate, could attend. Paul Furey, Delegate District #1, notified us that his mother passed away on Saturday, September 6, 1975, therefore, can not attend. Thus, there will be two delegates less for Delegate District # 1. In Area Delegate District #45, John Bokor was hospitalized August 29, 1975, and is not able to attend. The first Alternate, William S. Blizman, is in attendance. Director John P. Veszprémi, Jr., in a letter to National President, states that because of business commitment, he can not attend the Convention. There are, therefore, ninety-six (96) elected Delegates at this 28th General Convention. In addition, there are twenty-two (22) ex officio voting members, namely five (5) National Officers, eleven (11) Directors, and six (6) Auditing Committee Members, for a grand total of one hundred eighteen (118) votes. 15
