There wasn’t much William Penn activity this summer in the Detroit Area with one exception — The William Penn Branch 18 Social Clubhouse — The Moose finally moved out and the refurbishing and redecorating of the Club begin — panelling on the walls, new restrooms for both women and men, outside painting, new roof and ceiling, new panelling in kitchen and new kitchen cabinets, etc. It’s not quite complete at this writing but hopefully by sometime in November it will be. The members who remember how the Moose used to look will be pleasantly surprised at the Clubhouse now. Of course this all takes a lot of money and hard work and many thanks to the members who have been working and donating their time and effort to this venture. The officers of Branch 18 are now working out plans for a large membership drive to the Club. They are going to mail out letters to the membership explaining all the details. The eight District 30 Delegates (Branches 18 and 56-which is now one) attended the National Conventio nand have returned. They did not have much to say at the Convention. Mr. Stephen Danko was re-elected as Director from Detroit, Stephen P. Danko was elected seventh alternate Director and Mr. Julius Macker, Mrs. Julia Danko and “yours truly” served on various Convention committees. Past history now — The Mixed Bowling League came to a terrific and surprising finish last May — Molnár Funeral Home was in first place practically all season only to lose on the last day of bowling to Joseph Gross’ team comprising of Joe & June Gross and their son and daughter-in-law (Richard and Sally). The banquet was held at the Budapest Supper Club and your new officers are: Ernest Eesedi, President (re-elected), Steve Ivancso, Vice President (new), Emma Toth, Secretary (re-elected) and Irene Kekes, Treasurer (this was because Paul Korodi resigned as Treasurer when the new season began). The new bowling season started on Sunday, September 7, 1975, in the Arena at the Thunderbowl Lanes. Good luck to all bowlers. The Ladies Auxiliary Card party held in May was also a complete success. There were over 200 people in attendance — the largest card party, so far. Everyone enjoyed themselves playing cards, winning prizes and partaking of the goodies. Darlene Szatmári held a small style show at the same event advertising Queensway clothes. Many thanks to the women who worked so hard to make this affair the success that it was and also everyone who attended. The Ladies are now planning an outing somtime in October — perhaps to the Roostertail. Details to be completed at the October Auxiliary meeting. All the members had a busy summer traveling and having visitors and relatives from Europe (Hungary). I am sorry to report that Mr. Jozsa on Emmons Blvd. passed away — May his soul rest in peace. Mrs. Julia Tremble burned her right hand very severely in July (she still has two fingers bandaged). Don’t forget — The Branch 18 monthly meetings on the second Sunday of every month at the Clubhouse — 1410 Southfield Road, Lincoln Park. Also, the Ladies Auxliary meetings the first Wednesday of every month at the same place.
