DETROIT, MICHIGAN WILLIAM PENN SPORTS CLUB NEWS The Sport Club has its own news letter called “The Landmark” which is published bi-monthly. It contains news of members, birthdays, anniversaries, sports items, recipes, branch 18 news, and sometimes even advertising. Members are encouraged to contribute any material interesting to the membership, and to friends. Why “Landmark”? can be interpreted in various ways, such as an initial effort, “breaking the way”, or to “show the way back to home port.” In this case, it is to “set an example” of friendly cooperation between people of various aptitudes and tastes, and of people trying to get along together. We must have done something right because at the election meeting held recently the following were re-elected to serve as officers: William Penn Director and club president John P. Vespremi; Vice President Louis Csordás; Secretary- Treasurer and Publicity Jolán Lucas; Auditor Joseph Gross and Sergeant-at-arms Louis Gross. Six new members have signed up at the last two meetings and we welcome them. In fact, they have all offered to host the various meetings for 1975. We thank Gabor and Kathy Takacs for hosting the Christmas Party. The young couple went all out to show us real Hungarian hospitality. The Martin Rigos host in April and the Zoltán Balogs host in June. The summer outing will be held in Plymouth, Michigan by the Louis Csordás’. All but a few sports club members will be going to Chicago for the Annual William Penn Bowling Tournament and Scholarship Days. Captain Joseph Demeter will not be going with his two-time Champion team, due to an ailing knee. Best luck to this great team — bring home the bacon! I understand that 14 teams will be going from Detroit, two short from the 1974 Detroit tournament. Good luck to all Detroit bowlers. I just learned that Joseph Lorincz, who was Secretary of the 1974 William Penn Tournament won fourth place in the Petersen Classic in Chicago. He won first place last year. A number of Detroit William Penn members attend this bowling Classic each year and finish in the money. Let’s hope the William Penn branches make careful selections of delegates to the convention in September. The election of convention delegates will be held in the month of May for all branches. Make it a point to attend this very important William Penn branch meeting and vote for the right delegates. Fraternally, John Lucas, The Ferret DELEGATE DISTRICT MEETING The following District Secretaries have submitted for publication in the issue of WILLIAM PENN LIFE information pertaining to date, time and place of the Delegate District meetings.
