A short program consisting of a few individual children singing Christmas Carols and a couple of Hungarian dances performed by John Danko and Joseph Verona. The children welcomed Santa Claus and received a gift as well as pop and potato chips as gifts from the Branch. Christmas carol books, a gift from the Home Office, was distributed to each child. The parents enjoyed coffee and pastry while the children talked to Santa and received their toys. The coffee and pastry is the annual donation from the Ladies Auxiliary. Time is drawing near for the one BIG affair that is held annually by Branch 18 - THE ANNUAL CHAMPAGNE BALL. The dance this year will be held on SATURDAY evening, FEBRUARY 9, 1974, at the CASTAWAYS BANQUET HALL in Riverview. The music will be furnished by Frank Borisz and his Continental Orchestra. As this affair is always a sell-out and as the capacity of the hall is limited to 550 persons we are asking persons to be sure they get their tickets as soon as possible. Tickets are available from the branch officers; however, if you wish to order them please call or write to Elvira Kubovics, Branch Secretary, 7039 Kingsley Avenue, Dearborn, Michigan, 48126 (313-581-2356) before January 15, 1974. On Sunday, November 11, 1973, the card party sponsored by both the branch and the Ladies Auxiliary was a huge success! The proceeds from this affair were sent to the William Penn Scholarship Foundation. I would like to thank everyone for their hard work, door prizes, table favors and other donations too numerous to mention. Without your help we never would have had the success that we did. The Annual Christmas dinner sponsored by the Auxiliary this year was a huge and unusual success. It was held at the Budapest Supper Club with 92 persons attending — 41 members and 51 guests. Everyone had a wonderful time! The meal was outstanding and many, many thanks to both Steve and Juha for their services as well as the services of the waiters and others — it was just perfect. The crowning glory was listening to the strains of the Hungarian Gypsy orchestra led by Jaroka Sándor — his music is out of this world. Mrs. Julia Szatmári, Darlene Danko Szatmari’s mother-in-law, visiting from Hungary, was one of our guests. The William Penn Mixed League is approximately half way through with their bowling season and as usual it is a close race for first place. At the present time, Team 7-J&M SPORT AND SKI SHOP, consisting of Emma and Andy Toth and Helen and S.P. Danko are in first place by a narrow margin of 2 points — so you see how close it is. We’ll see who ends up in first place by the end of April, 1974. 7
