We had a wonderful turnout for the szalonna sütés (bacon fry) after a short business meeting September 25, 1974. It is so pleasant to have young and old gathered around the fire, and enjoy real good fellowship. The youngsters enjoy listening to tales about the “good old days”, enjoyed by our elders. The evening was capped with group singing both Hungarian and American favorites. We are looking forward to the Square Dance to be held Wednesday, October 23, 1974, right after our monthly meeting. This will also be our Halloween Dance. Arrangements are being made for the Children’s Christmas Party, Saturday, December 21, 1974 at 2:00 P.M. in William Penn Room, United Church Christ, 130 Walter Lane, Springdale, Pa. Our regular December meeting would fall on Christmas Day, so our meeting date has been changed to Wednesday, December 18, 1974 at 7:30 P.M. All members are cordially invited to attend this meeting. Officers for 1975 will be elected at that time. Detroit William Penn Sports Club News As usual, an extremely' successful ANNUAL SUMMER OUTING was held by the Detroit William Penn Sports Club (all branch 18 members) on August 18th, in the pleasant and sheltered back-yard of club president and his wife, Director John P. and Dorothy Vespremi. Actually, the club had such a good time and apparently were so much fun that a return engagement to the home of George and Betty Toth was given to club members. However, a phone vote decided by the majority, accepting the invitation, but veto-ing it for this year because of the GAS SHORTAGE AND HIGH PRICES, in favor of closer quarters, thus resulting in our Hungarian Luau (szalonna sütás) and picnic being held in Lincoln Park; Again, as last year, the pot-pourri some exciting hours. By the timeLou and I, and our house guests from the north country of Michigan, Leonard and Betty Brunette returned from a pleasant cruise on the Detroit River and upper extremities of Lake Erie in the newly purchased Lucas Cruiser, the party was in full swing. We weren’t exactly sure if we had the right house, but the aroma of frying bacon and lilting Hungarian music over the Vespremi’s loud-speaker, openly declared we were in the right spot at the right time. How the John P. Vespremi’s could lieprepared for such a huge crowd after only barely moving into their new home was a miracle Lawn chairs were strewn around in friendly conversational groups; the music making dancing imperative despite the over-whelming August summer heat. Best surprise of all was when John’s band set up their musical instruments to give us professional type music for dancing, singa-longs, and just “easy listening”. All for free Donated toy the band to a peppy group of William Penn members! This Annual Summer Outing Detroit, Mich. band has been together for 14 years and the Sports Club heartily thanks them for donating their time and talents to liven this special occasion. This hand has played at various William Penn activities, both national tournaments and local. The band members were so impressed with the friendly club group that they are interested enough to join. We hereby welcome all of you and your wives to join this splendid club. the band also had a “Girl Singer”, our own Julia Csordás, who surprised us with her fine singing voice. Besides the plentiful supply of bacon-frys and drippings, supplied by the die-hards who could lean over two bar-b-que grills on this hot day, other food supplied by the ladies was excellent. WOW! Talk about “summer living and eating!” I am sorry for the few members who couldn’t make it for one reason or another; vacations, mostly, but you sure missed a good time. Better make it next year — always the latter part
