National President Elmer Charles opened the meeting at 10:00 A.M. In this happy holiday season he was pleased to greet the Board of Directors and National Officers to this fourth quarterly meeting. In about a week from now it will be Christmas, and we certainly look forward to this joyous occasion. President Charles stated that he and Mrs. Charles decided not to send Christmas Greeting cards this year. In lieu of cards, President Charles donated $100.00 to the William Penn Scholarship Foundation. He further stated it would be a joyous blessing if every member donated at least $1.00 at Christmas time to the Scholarship Foundation. Our concern is the youth, while their concern is education, and unless we help them wecan’t reach our youth. We must help our youth with financial support. It’s a joyous thing to know that the last two years so many children benefited from our Scholarship Fund. I’m sure their hearts are filled with joy for our generosity. Mr. Charles’ theme at this time is: “It’s more joy to give than to receive.” Christmas means love and we should practice it 365 days a year, not only at Christmastime. could sign providing in their Wills a certain specified sum to be donated to the Foundation from the person’s Estate. 14. It is suggested that members may also purchase life insurance from William Penn Association and designate the Foundation as beneficiary. 15. Branch 296, Springdale, Pennsylvania, is starting a program this year whereby each Branch member will be requested to donate at least $1.00 to the Foundation. If this program could be carried out at all William Penn Branches it could mean a substantial increase in funds, thereby providing for more scholarship grants. 16. Mr. Charles expresses thanks to all of those who attended this Special Meeting. Adjournment is at 5:30 P.M. Respectfully submitted: Albert J. Stelkovics, Secretary It reminded him of a story where money is put into an envelope for a Christmas present. A father put an envelope under the tree. Instead of money, he put a note stating he would give one hour a day and four hours on Saturday to devote to his children What a wonderful gift this was. What we need is more time for one another and our children. The problem is we always seem to lack time. We often walk away from our children because we are too busy. We, as fathers of our Association, in the year of 1974 should devote more time to our Association in order to further its progress. We should find ways to get the message to individuals that they should belong to our Association. A few minutes a day would be a big help. If we dedicate this type of interest to them, they in turn will be dedicated to us. We should spread this message among our friends and neighbors in 1974 and next year we will enjoy a more joyous Christmas. Mr. Charles quoted from an old Hungarian song, the words of which are most befitting for the holiday season. From this we should get inspiration to do things and not just talk about uniting to preserve our Hungarian Heritage: “One in Christ, One in Joy and One in Family.” If we are as concerned about our Hungarian heritage as we say we are, then the leaders of the American- Hungarian community must get together. We should all support this great cause. President Charles announced with deep sorrow the passing of the following members: Illustrious Member Andrew Barsi, former Branch Manager of Branch 305, Woodbridge, N.J.; George Mészáros, former President of Branch 34, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Gáspár Nagy, President of Branch 23, Pocohantas, Va.; John Hegedűs, Branch 13, Trenton, New Jersey; John Uszko, former President of Branch 152V, East Pittsburgh, Pa.; Mrs. Helen Dikovics, Daughter ofHonorary President John Bencze. President Charles was happy to see that National Secretary Albert J. Stelkovics is fully recovered from recent surgery. He also announced that National Auditor Michael Hrabar also has recovered after a stay in the hospital. National Auditor Michael Kara also recovered from oral surgery, and Marie Tady is also back from a stay in the hospital. He wished them all good health.
