I children and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Gyermeli has been for 30 years manager, of Branch 168, Palmerton, Pa. We wish to extend to Mr. and Mrs. Gyermeli our sincere good wishes for many more years of happy married life in good health. 189 Alliance, Ohio The Holiday season has come and gone, but we, here at Branch 189 have good memories of good old Saint Nick! The children’s Christmas party was a huge success, with 103 children in attendance and all in a joyous mood waiting for dear old Santa! After the excitement of games and receiving gifts for their efforts, the children sang Christmas Carols. The singing of Jingle Bells brought dear Santa into the room. With him he had candy and fully packed stockings for each and every child. After talking with all the children and giving them their goodies, Santo waved goodbye to all the children with a promise he will return next year if all the children remain good! Directors Robert Hahlen and John Francis helped serve refreshments to the children. Penny Duruttya, Jenny Young, Sherri Nile, and Kin Hahlen were in charge of the games. We want to thank them so very much for their efforts. Also special thanks to the Home Office for their generous contribution which helped us to make the party for the children a success. The Executive Board Christmas steak dinner was enjoyed by all the Directors and their wives. Special guests for the occassion were Mr. Mike Korosy, who plays our Santa for us at Children’s party, our other guests were Mr. and Mrs. John Michael, our Club managers for the William Penn Hall. The New Year’s Eve party was a complete sell out, with everyone being well wined, danced and fed, with delicious pig in the blankets cooked by Mrs. Julia Sera and Mrs. Anna Szekely. Election of Officers was held December 16, 1973 at the William Penn Hall. The Officers for 1974 are: President, Michael Duruttya, Vice President, Louis Francis, Treasurer, Michael Buzogány, Secretary, John Francis, Controller, Robert Hahlen, and Reporter, Marie Duruttya. Election of Officers for 1974 took place on Sunday, December 13, in the meeting room of St. Stephen’s Church on Beacon Street. Taking office are Louis L. Siebert, President; John Sabo, Vice President; Edward M. Rietski, Secretary; Mrs. Violet B. Lenart, Treasurer and Publicity; Mrs. Elizabeth Buck and Mrs. Ethel Sabo, Auditors. A highly sucessful Christmas Party for the children of Branch 226 was held on Sunday, December 16, at the West Mifflin Holiday Inn. This year, in addition to our own Branch, Branch 71 of Duquesne, and Branch 89 of Homestead, we welcomed Branch 34 of Pittsburgh, so that approximately four hundred youngsters were present for the Holiday Festivities. Of course, many of the children brought parents with them so that our over all turnout was excellent. Hungarian Christmas Carols were sung by a group of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from Branch 34 and they also led the guests in the singing of traditional Christmas Carols, to the accompaniment of Miss Helen Stipkovits. To the immense delight of the children — and adults — a marionette show of Jack and the Beanstalk was presented by a very talented group of young people from Pittsburgh. Refreshments were served and then Santa arrived — the most important event of the day! Santa presented each child with a box of chocolates and a shiny silver dollar. The children were overwhelmed with their gifts and with, I believe, the entire party as a whole. The Officers of the participating branches worked tirelessly during the planning stages before the party and then at the event to ensure the success of their endeavors. Following the Children’s Party, Officers and adult members of the four branches, enjoyed an excellent dinner at the Holiday Inn in the spirit of true fraternal fellowship. We are certain that the fine working relationship enjoyed by our branches will contribute to our mutual growth and success in years to come. Violet B. Lenart 249 Dayton, Ohio Branch 249, Dayton, Ohio, held its annual meeting on Sunday, December 9th, elected to office for the coming year are Mr. John Motko, President, Mr. John Dzusak, Vice president, Mr. Frank Hoffer and Mr. Steve Horvath, Auditors, Mrs. Anne Kertesz, Secretarytreasurer. We extend our congratulations to the above officers and feel certain they will serve diligently for the best interest of our association. It was decided that all our future meetings be held at the lower level of St. Stephen’s Church at 1114 Troy Street. We feel this location and facility are better suited for our needs and hope this move will induce more members to attend our monthly meetings which are held the second Sunday of the month at 2:oo P.M. Former Director, Mr. Louis Vassy is recuperating after receiving minor surgery, we wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him at our meetings. Your cards and calls would be appreciated. Following the meeting, we held our Annual Christmas Party for juvenile members. It was heartwarming to see such a fine turn out for this affair; it was evident on the faces of the children that Santa Claus gave them a gift most pleasing to them. Director Albert G. Kertesz performed as Master of ceremonies. Special thanks are in order for member Joy Felföldi Reboulet and students of her “School of Dance” for providing such an entertaining program, also for Mr. Frank Hoffer in his role of jolly St. Nick and also Julius Flamm for his piano renditions. Last but not least, we wish to thank all those who helped in any way to make this party a success, the workers and the participants. Many favorable comments were received. 11
