An excellent dinner, prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary of United Church of Christ, under the capable leadership of Mrs. Elmer Charles and served by the members of Branch 296 followed. After dinner the Testimonial program began with the introduction of Mr. Arnold Miller, International President of United Mine Workers of America, who in his speech pointed out that his Union was once more in the hands and control of the rank and file members, thanks to the efforts of many, particularly Lou Antal, and it is his goal to make sure that as President of the United Mine Workers of America he carries out the wishes and desires of the majority of the Union members.

Rev. Arthur Keyes, chaplain of Amalgamated Clothiers and Homeland Ministries, United Church of Christ spoke on the values of unionism and fratemalism and paid tribute to the Honoree for his devotion to duty and God.

Attorney Kenneth Yablonski, Compensation Director, District 5 and Hon. William DeMao, Mayor of Arnold, Pa., extended greetings.

The highlight of the evenings program was the principal address by Rev. Imre Kovács, Pastor, United Church of Christ, Springdale, Pa. Rev. Kovács highlighted Mr. Antal’s achievements in the Union movement and in his services to the Church.

On behalf of the Directors of William Penn Association, Albert J. Stelkovics, National Secretary, presented to Mr. Antal a “Resolution” extending best wishes to Mr. Antal.

Mr. John P. Balia, Vice President and Chairman of the Board, presented to the Honoree the William Penn “Illustrious Member” Citation.

Mr. Antal responded to the greetings, expressed his deep appreciation for the accolades given him by the various speakers. He pledges to exert even more effort for the cause in which he has believed and fought for all these years and promises never to break faith with his true friends, co-workers and fellow fratemalists.

The evenings program was concluded with Benediction by Rev.Imre Kovács.

Representing the William Penn Association were National Treasurer and Mrs. Julius E. Somogyi, Director and Mrs. John Sabo, General Counsel and Mrs. Gay B. Banes, Field Manager and Mrs. Gus G. Nagy, Mrs. Mary Stelkovics, Mrs. Emma Beganyi, member of the Auditing Committee. From the Home Office Staff, present were Miss Frances A. Furedy, Mrs. Marie Tady, Mrs. Rose Rapagna, Miss Helen Erdeky and Mr. Joseph Susch.

Officers of Branch 296 introduced were Branch Manager and Mrs. George Charles, Mrs. Jennie Wislie and Mrs. Mary Weseloski, Auditors.

Church Officers present were President Julius Telegdy, who for 40 years until his recent retirement was also a coal miner, Mr. James Beganyi. Secretary, Mr. Joseph Antal, brother of Louis Antal, and Mrs. Emma VanTine, sister.

A reception was held prior to the Dinner, affording many friends to meet and socialize.
