30th National Bowling Tournament Most Successful Memorial Day week-end 1973 will be memorable to all those who participated or watched the 30th National Bowling Tournament of William Penn Association. National President ELMER CHARLES hands first ball to Vice President JOHN P. BALLA. The Star Dust Lanes, Brook Park, Ohio with its 78 lanes provided excellent facil­ities and it was possible to roll all team events at one time so that everyone was through bowling early and had plenty of time to prepare for the evening’s fes­tivities. Ronald Karnya served as Tournament Secretary with distinction, his experience in this field was most helpful. To our knowledge there were no complaints of merit. Mr. Elmer Charles, National Presi­dent, extended warm words of welcome to the bowlers and their guests. He was happy to announce that there were 2 bowlers present today who bowled for the first time at the first tournament 30 years ago, namely James Pesti and Steve Smith of Lorain, Ohio. Kertesz, Director, extended greetings on behalf of the Board of Directors and Bowling since first Tournament and being congratulated by President CHARLES, from Lorain, Ohio are: JAMES PESTI and STEVE SMITH. the Local (Cleveland) Committee. Ronald Karnya gave final instructions before the National Anthem was played and Mr. Balia rolled the first ball to officially open the 30th Annual Tournament. In this issue we have several excellent photos of activity at the Bowling Lanes; visual proof of the participation of so many in this fine fraternal activity spon­sored by the William Penn Association and supported by many of our Branches. 69 teams registered for this years Tour­nament. All Captains have by now been offi­cially notifed of the Winners and the prizes as shown on the prize list have been mailed out by the Tournament Ad­ministrator and Tournament Secretary. To those of us who participated in this Tournament we must say it was one of the most successful, the lanes were excel­lent, those responsible for the arrange­ments did a fine job, so good in fact that it prompted the William Penn Board of Directors in adopting a Resolution of com­mendation for a job well done. National Anthem and Opening Ceremonies. The Board of Directors have selected the City of Detroit, Michigan as the site of the 1974 Tournament and Scholarship Days, as plans progress for next year’s event, information will be disseminated to all Team Captains of record and to the Branches.
