NOTICE Is March, 1972 the Board of Directors authorized the purchase of Hungarian Language Books from the U. S. Government Printing Office. These books have now arrived at the Home Office and a copy will be furnished to any member upon written request to the Home Office. The supply is limited, therefore, the books will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. The Officers and Board of Directors feel that through this book, many of our third and fourth generation members, will have an opportunity to acquire a minimal knowledge of the spoken magyar language, the language of our forefathers who founded the WILLIAM PENN ASSOCIATION 87 years ago. The National Auditing Committee of the William Penn Association met at the Home Office on March 19-23, 1973. Committee Members present were: László Kereszti, Chairman Emma L. Beganyi, Secretary Helen Nemeth Michael Hrabar Louis Fodor Michael Kara National President Elmer Charles welcomed the Committee and invited them to take part in the opening exercises of the quarterly Board Meeting. On behalf of the Committee, Mrs. Helen Nemeth extended greetings to the National Officers, Board Members, General Counsel and Medical Director, expressing how happy we all are to see President Charles and Vice President Balia back after their lengthy illness. Our Audit covered the Home Office operations from July 1, 1972 to December 31, 1972. As members of the Committee we certify that the following were examined: All bank deposits to Pittsburgh National Bank and Western Pennsylvania National Bank were verified and checked to the ledgers. The Premium Income Account was examined as was the Pension Plan and Payroll Account. The Dividend and Sick Benefit accounts were thoroughly checked. Investment Accounts were verified. The Committee went to the vault at Mellon Bank to verify new purchases and check Stocks and Bonds. It was noted by the Committee that good and sound investments are being made by a capable Investment Committee. The Scholarship Foundation showed assets of $39,810.00 as of December 31, 1972. All Committee members attended the First Tri-State Annual Ball for the benefit of the Scholarship Foundation held on March 17, 1973. They wish to inform the membership that it was a wonderful and successful affair and they hope it will be carried on by other branches throughout the country. Branch Audit Reports were examined and audited. The Committee recommends that more care be given in completing these reports as many of the branches made errors in their calculations. Branch Activity Reports showed that $16,669.23 was spent by the branches for benevolent, charitable and fraternal activities in 1972. The Minutes of the September and December 1972 Board meetings, the Executive Committee Minutes, the President’s Report, the Actuary’s Report and the Pennsylvania Insurance Examination Report were all read. The Annual Statement was reviewed. At the close of Audit, the Committee met with National President Elmer Charles, National Secretary Albert J. Stelkovios, National Treasurer Julius E. Somogyi and General Counsel Gay B. Banes. They informed the Committee on the progress being made in the merger with the American Life, the Home for the Elderly and the Building Program. The Committee is satisfied that these matters are diligently being carried on. Chairman Kereszti informed the Officers that after conducting this Audit the Committee wishes to report that all was in order and the Association is efficiently managed. The Committee wishes to thank the Officers and the Home Office Employees for their kind and considerate cooperation during the audit. Our examination was made in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards and included such tests of accounting records and such other auditing procedures as we considered necessary. Respectfully submitted, Emma L. Beganyi, Secretary László Kereszti, Chairman TRI-STATE SCHOLARSHIP BALL The first Tri-State Scholarship Dinner- Dance was held in the William Penn Hotel, Pittsburgh, Pa., March 17, 1973. Despite the severest snowstorm of the Winter Season, over 200 people participated and the efforts of the Committee proved fruitful. In addition to the tremendous social success of the evening the Scholarship Foundation treasury was enriched -1,543.82. This first group effort for the benefit of the Scholarship Foundation was successful, because the Officers and Members of the following Branches worked diligently to see that it succeeded: Branch 34, Pittsburgh, Pa., Branch 71, Duquesne, Pa., Branch 89, Homestead, Pa., Branch 226, McKeesport, Pa., Branch 2%, Springdale, Pa. and Branch 349, Weirton, W. Va. Unfortunately some of the other Branches whose officers served on the Committee for arrangements, did not participate for one reason or another. The Committee has plans to hold a similar Dinner-Dance each year, however, certain changes are contemplated in order to have more members participate. All Branches in the region will be informed of future plans. The Committee wishes to express its appreciation to all who helped make this evening a success by either attending the Ball or financially contributing in lieu of ticket purchases. 7
