Minutes of the Board of Directors Quarterly Meeting EXCERPTS FROM MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING OF THE WILLIAM PENN ASSOCIATION HELD DECEMBER 11-13, 1972 IN THE BOARD ROOM OF THE HOME OFFICE IN PITTSBURGH, PA. 1. National President Elmer Charles welcomed the Board of Directors and his fellow Officers to the last quarterly meeting of 1972. He reported that Director John P. Balia, Vice President and Chairman of the Board, lay critically ill in the hospital. He reported that as of this morning the hospital informed him there was a slight improvement in his condition, however, he remains on the critical list. The sad news of Director Balia’s auto accident is shocking to everyone. Presidtnt Charles is deeply concerned and requested everyone present to remember Vice President Balia in our prayers for his complete recovery. The responsibility for conducting the Board Meeting falls on the National President, and Mr. Charles requested full cooperation during these deliberations to make his task of chairing this meeting as easy as possible. He stated the affairs of the Association must be continued as outlined in the Agenda which has been prepared. Mr. Charles .stated this would have been a very joyful holiday season had not the sudden illness befallen our Vice President. Christmas still means certain things however, Christmas means Friendship. We remember our friends, members and fellow officers through the fraternal activities we conduct in our every day living. Christmas means Brotherhood. Our Association encourages Brotherhood, which offers Hope for our families, especially in time of sadness. Many of our members look upon the Association with Hope when we offer a helping hand in time of need. Christmas means Happiness, therefore we should rejoice at the time of Christmas. Happiness was evident in the Biblical era for “David danced before the Lord with all his might.” Mr. Charles hoped that Friendship, Brotherhood and Happiness will prevail during the next three days of this eventful meeting, and extend into the year of 1973. 2. President Charles stated that next would have been the opening remarks of the Chairman of the Board, John P. Balia. Mr. Balia requested Mr. Charles to express his deep regret that he cannot be with us this morning and to relay the message to the Board Members that he will be alright. President Charles then called the meeting to order. 3. Director, Reverend Andrew P. Jacobs offered the invocation and a prayer for the recovery of Board Chairman John P. Balia, which was followed by the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America by the Board Members and National Officers. 4. After the invocation the Board Members and National Officers remained standing for a moment of silent prayer (Continued on page 15) 1972 WILLIAM PENN BRANCH CHRISTMAS PARTY PICTURES
