Selections for awards were made on the basis of family income, number of chil­dren attending college, scholastic record, degree of need for financial assistance. Course of major being pursued by student most closely related to our business was rated higher than unrelated courses. The Executive Committee consisting of Messrs John Sabo, President, Elmer Char­les, John P. Balia and William C. Kohut, Directors of the Foundation made the fol­lowing awards of $100.00 each to: Robert Hildenbrand, Branch 89, Homestead, Pa., Dean T. Mayors, Branch 28, Youngstown, Continued on page 3 • Portrait Unveiling Since the merger of the Verhovay and Rákóczi it has become a nice custom to have pictures of former National Officers placed in the Board Room. During the Board Meeting on June 12, the portrait of former National President Julius Macker was unveiled amid appro­priate ceremonies. (Please see Board Min­utes for details.) Mr. Macker is also being congratulated Continued on page 2 President Charles, Honorary President Ben­cze, Past President Macker. 29th Annual Bowling Tournament and Fellowship Days in Philadelphia Enjoyed by All Members and Friends Over 700 William Penn Members and their friends took part in the Memorial Day weekend celebration in Philadelphia, National President, Elmer Charles Pennsylvania on May 27th and May 28th, Early Friday morning the local commit­tee, Branch 76 went into action, and un­dertook the responsibility of handling the registration desk and banquet reserva­tions. In the early afternoon the Lobby of the Hotel was buzzing with Bowlers and guests — all happy to arrive in the “City of Brotherly Love”, to meet old acquaintances and new friends. Later that evening the Delaware Valley Suite was utilized as the Hospitality Room, where tasty dishes and liquid refreshments were served. Early Saturday morning, Steve Szemes, our Bowling Secretary engineered and co-ordinated the departure of the Buses to the beautiful Boulevard Lanes on Roosevelt Boulevard in Philadelphia. It was a thrilling sight to see the “William Penn” banner stretched across the bowl­ing lanes. After singing the National An­them, the long awaited moment arrived when President Charles rolled out the first ball of the Tournament. Within min­utes one could hear the thunder of the bowling balls striking the pins and the tournament was under way. Come Saturday evening — Dinner and dancing took place in the Grand Ball­room of the Sheraton Hotel. Branch 76 President, Tony Noel, greeted all the Bowlers and the guests with a short speech. Director Stephen Lang, Jr., Co- Administrator gave the address of wel­come in which he thanked everyone fór their presence at the affair. This demon­strated and exemplified true fratemalism and love for the William Penn Fraternal Association. He thanked especially those who came from long distances. He thanked the local committee for their splendid work, their zealous and determined ef­forts, co-operation and diligence. Mr. Frank Mikisits sang the National Anthem and the Hungarian Himnusz, after which the invocation was said and the Dinner commenced. Joseph Mezei and his gypsy Continentals played during the dinner and later for the dance. After dinner Director Frank J. Rad­­vany Co-Administrator introduced the Board of Directors, Members of the Au­diting Committee and the Local Commit­tee. National President Mr. Elmer Charles gave a short but inspiring message on true fraternalism. It is his continued hope and ambition, with everyone’s help, that the William Penn become the largest Frater­nal on this Continent. Entertainment was furnished by Mr. Frank Mikisits, who sang a group of Hun­garian Songs, and H. Jean Kulik, who played a number of Accordion Selections.
