by-laws, the committee must complete its assignment in five (5) days. Their report will be made in writing to the National President, to the Board of Directors and finally to the next convention. It is imperative that this committee verify each bond and stock in the Mellon Trust Company vaults. The President’s theme remains the same as stated in his message to the membership and to the Board of Directors, “good enough is not enough”. This will remain his theme throughout this administration. It is our obligation to satisfy our older members as well as our youthful members, and appropriate steps have been taken in both directions. Internal Revenue Service has declared the William Penn Scholar- Foundation tax exempted, thus contributions to this fund are tax deductible by the donors. With the Scholarship Foundation in full swing we hope to assist deserving young members in obtaining a higher education. Thinking of the elderly members and particularly the retired people who have limited income, we are attempting as a pilot program in Springdale, housing for the elderly. A questionaire has been sent to Western Pennsylvania members to determine whether or not there is a need for such a project. The response to date has been very favorable and on this basis application has been made to the appropriate Federal Agencies for carrying out the program. Mr. Charles thanks all who called or wrote to him with good wishes while he was hospitalized. All of the Association’s records are at the committees disposal and will be provided upon request either to the officers or the employees. Mr. László Kereszti thanks the committee for the confidence placed in him by electing him chairman. He promises to do his very best to carry out his duties as Chairman of the Auditing Committee. Mrs. Emma Beganyi also thanked the committee for electing her Secretary. She will endeavor to furnish proper reports and minutes of all committee meetings. National Secretary, Albert Stelkovics, and National Treasurer, Julius Somogyi also extend greetings and congratulations to the committee members. Both pledge complete cooperation with the committee. The committee is saddened to learn that Committee members Louis Fodor and Michael Hrabar both lost their mothers since the convention. The father of Michael Kara passed away in December. Condolences are expressed to the members. Our audit covered the Home Office operation for the period of July 1, 1971 to December 31, 1971. As members of the Auditing Committee we certify that the following were examined. All securities, bonds and stocks in the vaults of the Union Trust Branch of Mellon National Bank and Trust Company. Each security was physically counted and all were verified to the 1971 Annual Statement of the Association. All coupons had been detached and submitted for payment. Bank deposits to Mellon Bank, and Western Pennsylvania National Bank were verified, and compared with the ledger entries. The employees pension plan account was checked and verified for each employee and each pensioner. The payroll ledger was verified. Considerable time was spent in checking all of the disbursements. Each item for the audit period was carefully checked and found them to be in order. All of the expenses of the 1971 Convention were reviewed, checked and we verify that all expenses were paid in accordance with convention mandate or bylaw provision. All convention expenditures were in order. The Scholarship Foundation fund was verified. As of December 31, 1971 the assets of this fund were $28,803.66. Minutes of the November 1971 Board Meeting, Executive Committee Minutes and National President’s Report to the Board of Directors and Actuary’s Report to the Board was reviewed by the Committee. Branch Audit Reports were reviewed. Of the branches reporting the combined branch assets amounted to $128,632.12 as of December 31, 1971. The branches, according to the audit reports spent $14,747.75 for benevolent, charitable or fraternal activities in 1971. The Committee was sorry to see that several branches, including two of the larger branches failed to submit audit reports as required. The committee wishes to recommend to the Board of Directors that it should take some positive action regarding those branches which do not submit to the Home Office required branch audit reports, fraternal activity reports, and election of branch officer reports. The Committee conferred with General Counsel Gay B. Banes who explained the status of the American Fund matter. We also discussed the progress being made in the new building program. The Committee is satisfied that these matters are diligently being pursued. The Committee met with Samuel C. Gomory, M. D., Medical Director of this Association who informed the Committee about the daily operation of the Medical Department. It is noted by the Committee that the Home Office personnel are well trained, and very efficient thus making for a smooth operation. At the close of the audit, the committee met with the National President, the National Secretary and the National Treasurer. Chairman Kereszti informed the officers that after conducting this audit, the committee wishes to report Dr. Andrew Kovács Honored We are always pleased to report to the membership when one of the Officers, Directors or members of the Association receive recognition in their profession. Director Andrew Kovács was recently awarded, amid appropriate ceremonies, a citation by the Lutheran Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio for having served for 29 years as a member of the hospital’s Staff.
