Our hall is one of the largest in the area and we’re constantly using it for our Fully Automatic Bowling Lanes. — Once a week in a league or a night’s fun — many fraternal activities. We have a place where our members can come and enjoy a delicious dinner and dance to a wellknown hand without spending a lot of money. Two pork dinner-dances are scheduled each year in February and October. Our Chicken Dinner-Dance is held each April. They are always sellouts. The New Years Eve dance is always very special. We always try to get the best band in town and provide a free midnight luncheon. Indiana Avenue, South Bend, Ind. South Bend William Penn home should provide more fraternal activities for our members and that the home should be extensively remodeled. The South Bend William Penn member, from birth through his entire life has a place to come and enjoy our many activities — the fellowship of friends. Two years ago the house committee, under the chairmanship of National Director Frank J. Wukovits Sr.,decided that the year the small ones enjoy a Christmas party complete full-color movie, ice cream, pop and many, many gifts. Supervised Junior and Bantam bowling leagues are organized for our members age 9 through 18. By that time, they’re actively recruited by our senior leagues. We have league bowling here in our own home every nite Monday through Friday. Men’s leagues are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Monday is a mixed league and Friday is the ladies’ night. We have open bowling Calvin Synod Elected Rev. A. L. Beretz as its First Bishop The Reverend Arpad L. Beretz, pastor of the Faith United Church of Christ was elected the first Bishop of Calvin Synod Conference of the United Church of Christ and the first Bishop of the United Church of Christ denomination of 2 million members in Buffalo, N. Y. on April 28th at the Annual Meeting of Calvin Synod. He began his duties on June 30. The new Bishop is a native of Bridgeport, Conn, and is a graduate of the Reformed Seminary in Sárospatak, Hungary and did graduate work at the Yale Divinity Graduate School in New Haven, Conn. The new Bishop is married to the former Helen E. Kosa of Kalamazoo, Michigan, a teacher of German at High School, Highland, Indiana. His daughter, Julianna received her Master’s Degree from Rutgers University in June, 1971. Margaret Louise is a Junior at Hope College, Holland, Michigan. The Bishop’s mother lives in Stratford, Conn, and his brother Louis in Trumbull, Conn. members for weddings and anniversary celebrations . The South Bend William Penn home has served as a Hungarian cultural center for The Bowlers’ Lounge. — New paneling and full carpeting. over 33 years. Charitable activities are part of the service to our commutity. One prime example being the use of the South Bend William Penn home as the headquarters for Hungarian refugee relief in 1956-57. Frank J. Wukovits Sr. served as the administrator securing jobs — providing living quarters, clothing, food and medical assistance for over 400 helpless refugees in the great South Bend area. Since 1938 the William Penn home has been influential in civic, cultural and political affairs in our area. The task of remodeling has been a big one. It was done in the William Penn way —by VOLUNTEERS. Each man did the job he knew best.
