It is with a 9ad and heavy heart that we wish to let all members who have known Mr. Kalman Mudry, of 4629 Silverwood Street, Manayunk, Pennsylvania that at the age of 81, on September 25th, he passed away. As a very young man he was a faithful, loyal and active member, first as a member in the Rákóczi and then in the Verhovay which later changed its name to the present William Penn Fraternal Organization. Through his and his wife’s faithfulness, his children, namely Louis Mudry and Carmen Mudry have followed in his footsteps as members, and Carmen became an active officer of Branch 76 for many years, as did his daughter, namely myself and your reporter. Our father had always instilled in us that even born in America we should always be proud to be and never forget our Hungarian heritage. As a last tribute to him from his family and many dear friends may he now have the rest and peace he so mercifuly deserves. Before we say farewell to summer, we would like to tell the folks of the results of our July 26th annual picnic. Needless to say, it was a huge success. Fortunately, we were blessed with perfect weather (we heard the neighboring areas had stormy weather), a lovely, congenial crowd and children who certainly had a marvelous time with the games and swimming provided for them. Our hats off to the ladies who worked so diligently through the hot summer day to make the picnic the success it was. Not to forsake the men, many thanks for their tireless effort throughout the day, to see to the enjoyment and comfort of all present. The Hungarian orchestra was a treat, and the perfect ending for a truly enjoyable day. See you at the next Summer picnic — plan on it. HURRAH AGAIN! We did it again. Left to right - Mrs. Melnick, Reporter, Mr. Stephen Szemes, T reasurer, Mr. Anthony Noel, President, Mr. Daniel Rosenfeld, Recording Secretary. On September 19, 1970, we had our Annual Fall Banquet, a little early true, but nevertheless our people came through with flying colors. The United German Hungarian Club was, as always, most congenial, the finest cuisine, delightful service and the evening topped off with the wonderful music of all musicians — The Musical Caravan. To the surprise of many, and especially to Mr. Anthony Noel and Mr. Stephen Szemes, honorary plaques were presented to each of them for their many loyal years of service to The William Penn Organization, Philadelphia Branch 76. Mr. Noel, President now, has served Branch 76 for 22 years. Mr. Stephen Szemes, now as Treasurer has served Branch 76 for 25 years. That is really a record to be proud ot, and those of us who know and have worked with them both throughout the years couldn’t be more in agreement that such plaques were most deserving. Congratulations to them both - and if you notice the picture I think their faces tell how surprised and happy they were to receive them. As an added attraction this time we had surprises for the ladies and gentlemen as they arrived - a pretty orchid for the ladies and a package of goodies for all. If you missed out and are curious, just remember to come to our delightful affair next year. Between door prizes, table prizes, little extra gifts, we feel that everyone had a happy and most enjoyable evening and one that they won’t forget in a hurry. So please remembe folks, our thanks to ALL of you, near and far and may you be as faithful to us next October when we will try to be the perfect host again. At this time we wish to acknowledge that Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Karoly and Mr. and Mrs. Philip Melnick of Phila. Br. 76 had a wonderful time as special guests at the Testimonial Dinner and Dance that Branch 048 of New York gave to Mrs. Anna Varga at the St. Mary’s Church of the Byzantine Auditorium, New York. Thanks so much for the opportunity to meet with your lovely group of people of New York. Christmas Party Time. People, please remember that only children who are members of Br. 76 are eligible to come to our Christmas Party. This year it will be held on December 12th - 3:00 P. Let us see all of you and the children on December 12th to make this a really Merry Christmas and happy holidays ahead! In closing - a little of cheer to Mrs. Michael Toth, who is getting better by the day - to our Daniel Rosenfeld who came through with flying colors at our dinner dance, and to Mrs. Gergely we hope she will recover rapidly from her misfortunate health, and to Mr. Carmen Mudry, continued good health.
