Christmas Parties, and Other Activities at the Branches TO OUR READERS AND CONTRIBUTORS: Our official publication is published monthly except for combined issues in June-July and August-September. — Deadline for publication is the first of the month. Material for publication should be typewritten, on ONE SIDE of paper only, DOUBLE SPACED, allowing SUFFICIENT MARGIN. Address contributions to: EDITOR WILLIAM PENN FRATERNAL ASSOCIATION 429 Forbes Avenue Pittsburgh, Pa. 15219 14 Cleveland, Ohio I have been asked by the Officers of Branch 14 to re-activate the column that I used to write for Branch 14. And I agreed providing after six months they will try and convince someone else to write the column. The regular monthly meeting is always held on the first Sunday of the month, and in March it will be on the 3rd, at Kossuth Hall, Corner of Buckeye and East Boulevard, which is our regular meeting place. President Nick T. Yuhasz urges each and every member to attend, because important matters pertaining to the good and welfare of our Branch will be on the Agenda, and a large membership attendance will bring out new ideas. Check with our Sergeant-at-Arms, Mr. Gallo who will keep an attendance record. The Christmas party was a tremendous success — there were at least two hundred and fourteen children present. The presents from the Home Office were given out by President Yuhasz, his son Nick T. Yuhasz, Jr., Steve Szappanos, Edward Torda, who also led the children in singing the Christmas Carols, Joseph Kovach, Joseph Semetko, Santa Claus was present too. The President welcomed each and everyone to the Party. Refreshments were served. The kitchen was ably handled by Mrs. Isak, Mrs. Ladanyi and Mrs. Tatai, other Ladies from the Branch helped out by pitching in here and there so that everything went smoothly, in our opinion a splendid job was done by all and everybody had a good time. We would like the Home Office to establish a column showing when, where and time of the meetings each month. There is a rumor that the Home Office is going to establish a centrally located office somewhere downtown in Cleveland, which in our opinion will be a good thing. With people paying through the mail we do not need any Branch offices. Our personal congratulations to the Officers elected at the last Convention. I am sure they will serve our Association with honestry and integrity. March is the month in which Spring makes its appearance, it is also the month for St. Patrick’s Day, St. Joseph Day and the Ides of March, the 15th commemorating the 1848 Hungarian Freedom fight against tyranny. Louis Tárcái celebrated his 86th birthday. Béla Doctor his 81st and Joseph Kepes his 90th all in January. We missed former Director Dr. Andrew Kovács’ health column in the official publication. Rev. Gabor Brachna, Pastor First Hungarian Lutheran Church, a member of Branch 14 inaugurated the Magyar Heritage Day we believe it will be done again this year. Mrs. Emry Gall, Manager of former Br. 361 visited in Europe with her Son. Come to the Branch meeting and sign the register, handled by Sgt.-at-Arms Gallo. The Officers are talking about an attendance prize at every meeting. There is a movement on to establish a Hungarian Village, led by member John Palacsis, would be good for our area and the Hungarians in general. Branch delegates to the United Hungarian Societies are: Joseph Kovach, treasurer of Br. 14, and Bert Szilagyi. To the Szabolcs Megye Club President Nick Juhasz and J. J. Horvath. To the Business and Tradesmen Joseph Semetko and Jaul Szaniszlo. If you have a birthday in March and attend the meeting Eddie Torda has promised to sing you Happy Birthday. Joseph J. LADIES AUXILIARY elections in December produced the following results: President Margaret Veszprémi, Vice- President Grace Csiszár, Secretary and Treasurer Julia Danko and Auditor Katalin Demeter. The Christmas Party scheduled for December was postponed due to the usual extenuating circumstances but was held on January 28th at the Magyar Hall on West Jefferson. A new edition of the cook book “Hungarian Treasures” is being printed. It will have a new cover design and a few other changes and the price will be up slightly due to rising paper costs. There are still a few copies of the Sixth Edition remaining which can be purchased from any auxiliary member, or mail orders from Margaret Veszprémi, 2415 Stair, Detroit. Michigan. The “girls” are already looking around for new ideas for their annual outing. Last year it was a trip to Cedar Point in Ohio. SPORTS CLUB — the bowlers are getting ready for their annual tournament in Youngstown, Ohio on June 1 and 2. The Sports Club Mixed League is moving along with only a few more weeks left to bowl. The annual banquet will be at MAJOR’S CAFE on April 20, 1968, when awards and presentations will be made to the winners. There are several William Penn members, business men, who sponsor teams in this league — the Branch 18 sponsors one team, Kessler’s Texaco, Molnár Funeral Home, Delray Super Market, and Danko’s Bar.
