"Szabad sajtd!..."

"Ma született a magyar szabadság, mert ma esett le a sajtárul a bilincs...vagy van olyan együgyű, ki azt képzelje, hogy szabad sajtó nélkül lehet bármely nemzetnek szabadsága?

"Űdvez légy születésed napján, magyar szabadság!, először is én üdvezellek, ki imádkoztam és küzdöttem éretted, üdvezellek oly magas örömmel, a milyen mély volt fájdalmam midőn nélkülöztünk tégedet!

"Oh szabadságunk, édes kedves ujszüló'tt, légy hosszú életű e földön, élj addig, mig csak él egy magyar"..."Ezzel köszó'ntelek, ez legyen útravaldd az életben. Élj boldogul!... nem kivánom, hogy ne találkozzál vészekkel pályádon, mert az örökké nyugott élet félhalál, de legyen mindig férfieró'd a vészeken diadalmaskodni!"

Az AMERIKAI MAGYAR SZÖVETSÉG Washingtoni Osztálya március 16.-án vasárnap ^4 órai kezdettel a Guy Mason termében rendezi ezévi emlékünnepélyét, a következő műsor szerint: Megnyitó: TABA JÁNOS, az AMSz W.O. elnöke. SZÓZAT: énekli a közönség.

A BÁTORI JÓZSEF CSERKÉSZCSAPAT tagjainak előadásában PETŐFI SÁNDOR: NEMZETI DAL, valamint a "FORRADALOM és SZABADSÁGHARC" cimÜ programjuk.

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT: HUNGARIAN REFORMED FEDERATION OF AMERICA

PRESS RELEASE - The Choir of the Reformed College of Debrecen, Hungary, is coming to U.S. and Canada for a concert-tour of three weeks, beginning March 22nd, 1986. On March 30th, Easter Sunday, they will give a concert in Washington D.C. at the National Presbyterian Chuich Center, at 4:00 P.M.

The Reformed College of Debrecen has trained pastors,teachers,professzors,jurists and physicians, since 1538. The College has always been a living testimony to faith and science, culture and freedom This is the only standing Reformed College in communist Hun gary. The Choir (Kantus) was established in the 18th century.This present one consists of 60 voices, male and female, all of whom are high school students and theological seminary students of the Reformed College of Debrecen.

The Choir has been abroad prior to this first American tour, appearing in Austria W.Germany, England, Wales, the Netherlands and Yugoslavia. They won First Prize at an International Competition in Debrecen, in 1982, and First Prize in the Youth Competition, England, in 1984. The Reformed Church of England invited them in 1984, and they sung in numerous churches and concert halls in England and Wales, including the St. Martin-in— Fields Church in London. During their British tour newspaper reports praised them highly. NOEL COX, Adjuticator of the Inter-Tie Contest wrote: "A choir of much resource. Splendid alertness and 100% participation by all. They are a highly prepared group who sing with great confidence and vitality". IDA HOLMES-MOSS, in the Advertiser, wrote: "One rarely hears singing and playing of such perfection. Both were impossible to fault...Above all , the choir sang with their hearts as much as with their beautiful voices."

The invitation for their first U.S. tour came from the American Hungarian Ministers Association and the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, with the support of the Presbyterian Churches in the U.S. and Canada, as well as the Roman Catholic Church, and Church World Service.. Their repertoire for this first American tour includes Sacred and secular music, sung in Hungarian and other languages.
