A továbbiakban a vámkedvezmény meghosszabbítását elleneztek a különböző protestáns csoportok képviselői, továbbá DR. JULIANA PILON a Heritage Foundation román szakértője, valamint JACOB BIRNBAUM a Center for Russian and East European Jewry ügyvezető igazgatója.

Az amerikai magyarság köréből DR. HAVADTŐY SÁNDOR, református lelkész (Fairfield, Conn) HÁMOS LÁSZLÓ, a CHRR (NY.) képviseletében, és DR. SZÁZ ZOLTÁN az AMSz és az Erdélyi Világszövetség megbízásából vett részt a kihallgatáson. Más-más tények felsorolásával ismertették az erdélyi magyarság súlyos helyzetét és bizonyították, hogy a román kormány durván megsérti a

Helsinki Egyezményt. Ennek alapján kérték a romániai vámkedvezmény megszűntetését.

s A kihallgatások befejezése után az AMSz fogadást rendezett DAVID FUNDERBURK és felesége tiszteletére a Russel Senate Office Building 385. sz. termében, ahol JESSE HELM szenátor (N.C.) mutatta be a nagykövetet és feleségét. A szenátor hangsúlyozta, hogy DAVID FUNDER - BURK lemondása - az USA szempontjából is mérlegelve - tiszteletre méltó, hazafias cselekedet volt, amire csak valóban bátor, szilárd jellemű egyéniségek kepesek.

DAVID FUNDERBURK meleg tónusú közvetlenséggel köszönte meg a fogadást, és hangsúlyozta mennyire értékeli a magyarok részéró’l feléje áradó szimpátiát.

MARK SILJANDER képviselő” megdicsérte az AMSz - főként - DR. SZÁZ M.ZOLTÁN fáradhatatlan munkáját, amellyel az erdélyi magyarság érdekében küzd . A jo’l sikerült fogadás gazdag büfé - jét a CSIKÓS és OLD BUDAPEST adományozta. Nemcsak a főváros magyarsága köréből jelentek meg a

fogadáson, de eljöttek NY.-NJ. államokban v.Kanadáhan élő erdélyi származású magyarok is .

TIMES közölte, hogy a U.S. SZENÁTUS KÜLKERESKEDELMI BIZOTTSÁGA jóváhagyta a MOST FAVORED NATION vámkedvezmény meghosszabbítását ROMÁNIA javára. - (RÓNA GIZELLA)
