In the framework of the International Hydrological Programme of UNESCO, the co-operation of riparian countries of the River Danube was started in 1-971 (Domnokos, 2001). Initially the number of participating countries was 8, while the present number is 13. The objective of co-opcration was to publish internationally harmonised and synthesised information, which are unconditionally needed for the development of water management in the Danube Basin. The results of this co-operation included the Hydrological Monograph of the Danube Basin, in three volumes in 1986, and the publication of 7 thematic auxiliary volumes by the year 2000. Of these 7 volumes 3 was co-ordinatcd by a Hungarian specialists each. These latter were introduced, along with a fourth one made in Romania with the participation of Hungarian experts, in the articles of the Vízügyi Közlemények (Hydraulic
