580 Sass Jenő In Section 4 the processing of the survey results is presented in detail. The Chapter "Hydrography and geomorphology" is a synthesis of scientific information on Lake Balaton gained during the recent decades and amended in the light of the latest research results. The natural geography and hydrologie conditions of the lake and the tributary catchment, the formation, development and regulation history of Lake Balaton are the main subjects of this chapter. The hydrographie maps of 1:10.000 scale emphasize the water management structures, distinguishing rock (concrete) linings, rip-rap shore protection and shores in the original condition. The map of 1:25.000 scale indicates primarily the water depths in the lake (Fig. 9). Maps to the scales 1:50.000 and 1:1000 000 have also been constructed, the latter showing the full metre depth contour lines as well. The longitudinal profiles of the Northern and Southern shores have been traced from the results of level surveys (Fig. 10). Owing to their extreme length, the standard crosssections are given in a strongly distorted form. The 1:2500 depth contour line maps of the ports on Lake Balaton (Fig. 11) as well, as the descriptions of the standardand intermediate sections have been published in separate annexes to the Atlas. A number of new results have been incorporated into the Hydrographie Atlas on Lake Balaton, the fresh data being of interest to scientific research and practice alike. The results and potential applications are outlined in Section 5. The new network of benchmarks is of advantage, as it permits a more accurate determination of absolute lake level elevations, ensuring at the same time that in subsequent surveys the same cross-sections will be measured. The shoreline stationing applied on the 1:10.000 scale maps is suited to identifying positively any point on the shore. Changes in the lake bed can be studied using the maps of 1:25.000 scale. The longitudinal profile contains each feature with the corresponding stations, thus it is a detailed cadaster of regulation works and reed areas of Lake Balaton. The chapter on "Hydrography and geomorphology" presents among others the main geometric data on Lake Balaton (Fig. _Z3).The process of shoreline erosion has been studied (Fig. 12), presenting the length, width and magnitude of reed areas in tabular form. In the course of processing the new data have been compared with those of the 1955 — 56 survey. The lake surface estimated from both surveys has revealed no change and the comparison of bed volumes has failed to verify the assumption according to which the lake is in a condition of silting. * * * Hydrographische Vermessung des Balaton-Sees von Dipl.Ing. Jenő Sass Die ständig zunehmende Bedeutung des Balaton-Sees für Erholungswesen und Fremdenverkehr erfordert eine baldige Lösung der damit verknüpften, ebenfalls ständig zunehemenden Sorgen der Wasserwirtschaft. Die Lösung dieser vielseitigen Aufgabe kann nur auf Grund von genügend inhaltreichen und ausführlichen, thematischen hydrographischen Karten durchgeführt werden. Um dies zu fördern, Hess in den Jahren 1974 — 76 das Forschungszentrum für Wasserwirtschaft (VITUKI) eine detaillierte hydrographische Aufnahme des Balaton-Sees machen und aufgrund dieser Vermessungen wurde der Hydrographische Atlas des Balaton-Sees zusammengestallt. Die Teile 1. und 2. der vorliegenden Studie machen die Vorgeschichte und die Vorbereitungen der hydrographischen Vermessung, Teil 3. aber die Durchführung derselben bekannt. Im Rahmen der letzteren wurde zuerst ein neues Netz der Evidenzhaltung geplant und ringsum dem See angesetzt (Bild 1.). Die Lufttriangulation der Fixpunkte erfolgte aufgrund der Filme der zur Vermessung durchgeführten Luftaufnahme; auch Photokarten verschiedener Masstäbe wurden verfertigt.
