Babos (Mrs.) A brief description is presented of water management conditions in one of the largest districts of Algiers, the district Saida situated in the northern part of the country. The geographical situation and natural particulars, such as the general features, hydrology and surface waters are reviewed in Part 1. The exploratory drilling work, the siting and design of the wells, as well as the springs are detailed in Part 2. A summary of water resources development is given in l'art 3, specifically of the local methods of developing drinking water supplies, of large-yield wells, water works and the uses of irrigation water. The experiences gained in this work are summarized finally. It is concluded that in sparsely populated regions with adverse climate and water regime, rational water management and resources development are the prerequisites of advancement. The natural conditions do not exclude such development, but natural and social conditions call for the establishment of effective, centralized water management.
