A vízi környezetvédelem 205 protection activities are stated by legal provisions and of these the functions associated with reclamation-drainage, with protecting the volume and quality of surface- and subsurface water resources are controlled by the National Water Authority. The importance and functions related to the protection of the aquatic environment are described in Section 2. The individual biological needs of the population, the water demands of agriculture and industrial production are considered, arriving at the following conclusions: Efforts must be made in water management at conserving, in performing its functions, the environmental elements needing protection, such as the atmosphere, the water, the soil, the biosphere, the settlements and the landscape. Water management as the sector responsible for the rational development of water resources, as an element of the environment, is responsible for protecting the water against the detrimental effects caused by the other sectors. These functions are resolved and discussed in detail and the conclusions thereof are listed in Section Hereafter the functions associated with aquatic environment control are reviewed for the area under the competence of the South-Transdanubian District Water Authority

, the triangle enclosed by the Danube and Drava Rivers and comprising the counties Baranya and Somogy in the territory of Hungary. Under the ramified activities in controlling water damages and developing the water resources the Authority makes concerted and deliberate efforts at applying the technical-, economic- and administrative regulatory system of aquatic environment protection and water pollution control, contributing also to the perfection thereof. The problems associated with the quantity and quality of supplies, the specific functions of protecting these, the potential solutions and actual measures are described in detail first for Baranya, subsequently for Somogy counties. * * Schutz der Wasseruimvelt: seine Aufgaben und Möglichkeiten auf dem Gebiet der Wasserwirtsehaftsdirektion Süd-Transdaiuibicn von Dipl.Ing. Alajos Hernády und Dipl.-Chemieing. Róbert Kaurek In der Einleitung der Studie werden die mit dem Schutz der natürlichen Umwelt des Menschen verbundenen Aufgaben im allgemeinen besprochen. Der /. Teil erörtert die neuesten organisatorischen Massnahmen der Naturumweltschutztätigkeit in Ungarn. Unter Berücksichtigung der wirtschaftlichen Möglichkeiten des Landes kann •/.. Z. mit einer I'esthaltung der gegenwärtigen Umweltlage, später aber mit einer graduellen und allgemeinen Abnahme der Verschmutzungen gerechnet werden. Die Umweltschutztätigkeiten werden von einem Gesetz bestimmt. Laut dessen werden die Aufgaben der Hydromelioration, sowie des mengen- und gütemässigen Schutzes der ober- und unterirdischen Gewässer vom Landesamt für Wasserwesen geleitet. Der 2. Teil bespricht die Bedeutung und die Aufgaben des Wasserumweltschutzes. Iis werden die individuellen biologischen Wasscransprüche des Menschen, der landwirtschaftlichen Produktion und der Industrie besprochen und sodann die nachstehenden Schlussfolgerungen gezogen: die Wasserwirtschaft muss danach streben, im Laufe ihrer Tätigkeit die unter Schutz gesetzten Umweltelemente : die Luft, das Wasser, den Boden, die Lebewesen, die Siedlungen und die Landschaft zu schonen; und die Wasserwirtschaft, als ein Wirtschaftszweig, der eins der Umweltelemente; den Wasserschatz bewirtschaftet, muss das Wasser auch vor seitens der anderen Wirtschaftszweige drohenden schädlichen Auswirkungen schützen. 4 Vízügyi Közlemények
