(74) and a Wild-type wind vane mounted at a distance of round 3 km therefrom were used in the irrigation seasons in 1968 and 1969 to observe daily wave maxima and three times a day the direction and velocity of wind. A comparison of the observation values with the multi-year average wind data has revealed that the wind conditions in the experimental period were practically identical with the average of many years ( Fig. 5 ). After this verification the wave-height maxima observed daily were subjected to a statistical analysis to find the design wave height. For this purpose the distribution of daily wave height maxima was computed ( Figs. 6 and 7 ), from which the halfwave heights H/2 = 10 cm and Кд/2 = 15 cm were derived for practical application. The latter refers to the outer side of canal bends.
