<83) E) EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION ANT> EXPERIENCE In the national program the following tasks are envisaged: 1. Publication of detailed commentaires in foreign languages to the Hydrological Yearbook, as well as to publications containing observation data on experimental and representative areas, in order to make the results accessible to foreign investigators. 2. Introducing a running feature in HIDROLÓGIAI KÖZLÖNY (Hydrological Journal), the monthly periodical of the Hungarian Hydrological Society, for publishing Decade news. 3. Continuous informations for the Decade Bulletin to be published by UNESCO summarizing significant Decade activities. 4. Increasing the number of publications in foreign languages on results of Hungarian hydrological research (at least two papers annually). 5. Intensive participation in the activity of the International Association for Scientific Hydrology, meetings and symposia of which were regularly attended by representatives of Hungary, and further regular contributions to the Bulletin of the Association. 6. Continued publication of the national Bibliography of Hydrology, within the scope of the International Bibliography on Hydrology. 7. Participation depending on opportunity in the work of scientific symposia organized by UNESCO, or other international organizations. 8. Participation in various projects contemplated with international cooperation in connection with the Decade, thus in the work of various expert committees and working groups, in preparing chapters of the manual planned, in compiling the glossary of hydrological terms, and in common research projects. 9. Intensive participation in hydrological cooperation among countries of the Danube Basin, both within the Danube Commission and on a purely scientific level, especially at the bi-annual Danube hydrological forecasting conferences initiated by Hungary, as well as at the similarly bi-annual Carpathian meteorological conferences, both of which will be held for the third time in 1965. 10. Organization of the international symposium on "Experimental and Bepresentative Areas", assigned for 1965 to Hungary by the International Association for Scientific Hydrology. PROBLEMS OF THERMAL WATER RESEARCH IN BUDAPEST By Dr. L. Alföldi, geologist (For the Hungarian text see pp. 304) The water of thermal springs in Buda conies to the surface from the deep-seated aquifers through a complicated fissure system formed along the tectonic lines (Fig. 5). Since the turn of the century the utilization of natural springs has been more and more increasing. Owing to the effect of a forced exploitation by borings deepened in the vicinity of the line of springs, harmful changes have taken place in the surroundings of the Margaret Island (Fig. 1, wells 12 to 16). For this reason the thought of creating new borings found a great opposition on the side of many professionals who referred to the exhaustion of replenishment. In the author's opinion, the internal "recharge" conditions of the confined water-bearing karst formations may be esteemed but with great uncertainties. For lack of deep borings, the extension and connections of the underground reservoir are not known. Based on the few borings made so far, the karst formations can be searched for starting from the south-west and advancing in north-eastern direction through Budapest. The water amounts resurging from the underground reservoir, however, cannot be accurately determined and the possibilities of "recharge" are; still less known.
