31 and of the Tisza are separated, and data of entering, leaving, transit, and total traffic are given. Order of the descriptions of goods (Column 1) on page 44(5 : cereals, flour, fodder, legumina and grains, salt, other provisions ; on page 447 : tobacco, wood fuel, other products of forestry, raw materials of vegetable origin, building materials, coal, minerals and ores ; on page 448 : mineral oil, raw iron and steel, other crude metals, iron and steel products, manufactured articles, other goods. Figure 3 (page 449) depicts the traffic of the Danube ; figure 4 (Page 451) that of the Tisza, separated according to (a) the direction of the traffic, (b) the kinds of goods, in million quintals. The international traffic shows wide variations. On the Danube its total amount was 33 million quintals in 1931 ; it decreased to 21 million quintals in 1932, it was 22 million in 1933, and increased to 30 million quintals in 1934. On the Danube the upstream traffic prevailed, 70% of which consisted of transit goods. (The inscriptions under figure 3a., indicate in this order : leaving, entering, transit traffic ; the upper part of the figure represents the upstream, and the lower part the downstream traffic.) In the upstream traffic cereals and raw oil predominate. (Inscriptions under figure 3b., in this order : cereals, raw oil, salt, coal, other goods.) In the downstream transport salt, coal and wood are prominent. On the Tisza the maximum traffic was found to be more than 3 million quintals in 1933, and the minimum scarcely more than 1 million quintals in 1932. Inscriptions under figure 4a., (page 451) in this order : traffic leaving, entering ; under figure 4b., cereals, coal, wood, other goods. Most of the traffic on the Tisza is composed of cereals ; these leave the country at Szeged, and are carried down the Danube to the Black Sea. In Table VIII (page 453) the traffic carried on the Danube, and in Table IX (page 454) that on the Tisza, are grouped according to the kinds of boats. The columns give data of steamboats, barges towed by steamboat, motorboats, barges towed by motorboat, descending barges and rafts, in this order. Each column gives separately the total number of vessels, the number of loaded vessels, the weight of cargo in quintals, all columns being divided horizontally into : (a) upstream, (b) downstream, (c) total traffic. 4. Traffic of the Budapest Dutyfree Harbour. Because of the purpose for which it is destined, this harbour merits a special consideration. The Director's Office of the Dutyfree Harbour publishes annual reports on the traffic in the commercial basin, while data pertaining to the petroleum basin have been collected, ever since 1933, by the Central Statistic Office. Data on page 457 give information on the traffic of the commercial and petroleum basin, and the sum thereof. 5. Winter Harbours. In 1933 a collection of data of the traffic of these harbours was begun, giving information about the description and nationality of boats passing the winter in these harbours.
