between the two provinces agrees with the boundary between South and North Truongson. In conformity of the above-suggested scheme of zoogeographical division of Vietnam our country can be divided into two zoogeographical provinces having as a boundary between themselves the ridge Hái Van. The northern province can be divided into three districts: North-eastern, North-western and North Truong-son. The southern province consists of two districts: South Truong-son and Nam Bo (Fig. 2). Fig. 2. Map of the zoogeographical distribution of the rodents of Vietnam Numbers as in Fig. 1 In the summary of the present chapter the general features of the zoological elements for every district should be given. The northern zoogeographical province is characterized by the dominance of the southern Chinese and Indo-Burmese faunal elements. The rodent fauna of the North-eastern district seems to be quite similar to the fauna of South China ( Callosciurus erythraeus, Ta miops macclellandi, Niviventer bukit, Niviventer niviventer , Niviventer confucianus, Rhyzomys sinensis, Dremomys pernyi ). The rodent fauna of the North-western district is characterized by the infiltration of elements originating from South Yunnan, Burma and the Himalaya Mountains ( Typhlomys ci ne reu s , Micromys minutus , Eothenomys melanogaster, Rattus nitidus, Belomys pearsoni, Callosciurus pygerythrus) .
