Ornithological Results of J. Xántus's South East Asian Collecting Trips HORVÁTH, L. KEVE, A. Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest Abstract: J. XÁNTUS' s South East Asian ornithological activity was not known up to this date. On the basis of his notes the authors present a list of bird collected by him. J. XÁNTUS' s American ornithological investigations had already been published, but his South East Asian ornithological activity is not known. Unfortunately, all the birds collected by him have been destroyed in 1956. On the basis of his notes, made during the collecting trips, we present hereby a list of bird species which had been deposited in our museum. We do this to honour the memory of his 150th birthday. The inventory books - also destroyed during the conflagration in 1956 of the museum - listed 220 species representing 771 specimens collected by XÁNTÍJS. Salvadori mentioned only 450 specimens pertaining to 220 species. The species collected by XÁNTUS mainly in Borneo, Java, and Malacca in 1870 are as follows: Ardeola bacchus BONAPARTE: Jangce-kiang, China, 19, 6. 1869, i; 10, 7. 1869, unsex; Rugged Islands, South China Sea, 7-8. 1869, unsex Butorides striatus LINNAEUS: Rugged Islands, China, 7-8. 1869, unsex Aviceda jerdoni BLYTH: Sarawak, 15.1. 1870, unsex Coturnix chinensis LINNAEUS: Sarawak, 28.1. 1870, 9 Rallus striatus LINNAEUS: Sarawak, 18.1. 1870, 6; 8.2. 1870, 6 Amaurornis phoenicurus PENNANT: Sarawak, 25.1. 1870, 9 Gallicrex cinerea G ME LIN: Kobe, Japan, 9. 1869, unsex Pluvialis dominica P.
