Tápióbicske 19 74 (skull and parts of skeleton) Thefirst Hungarian specimen was reported in my earlier paper (TOPÁL 1959). It was collected and sent to our Museum by I. VÁSÁRHELYI. Since the animal had small external measurements and skull, coupled with doubtlessly juvenile characters, neither the collector nor Dr ÉHIK, curator at that time, recognized the species and identified the specimen as N. noctula. It is interesting to note that I. VÁSÁRHELYI, unaware of the existence of such a big bat in Europe, probably met with and observed it in the Bükk Mountains. During our personal discussions in the fifties, he gave account of his previous observations on much bigger bats flying among N. noctula in and around his house at Lillafüred. Obviously,he did not recall the details of his observations. Fig. 1.
