Vert.'br. Hung. XVH. 1976. New Records of Vespertilio murinus LINNAEUS and of Nyctalus lasiopterus (SCHREBER) in Hungary (Mammalia : Chiroptera ) TOPÁL, György Natural History Museum, Budapest ABSTRACT: The paper reviews all the occurrence data of Vespertilio murinus and of Nyctalus lasiopterus in Hungary, and deals with some new locality records of these bat species, with special regard to their migration, hibernation, and reproduction biology. Details of the general distribution of some European bats are still not known, mostly because of their rarity and/or their remote way of life. This holds mainly for the so-called "tree bats" as are e.g. Vespertilio murinu s and Nyctalus lasiopterus . The present paper deals with the Hungarian records of these two species. STRELKOV (1969) collected valuable data on the population of Vespertilio murinus living in the European part of the Soviet Union. BAUER (1954, 1955, 1960), AELLEN (1962), GAISLER and KLIMA (1965), DULIC (1959), RYBERG (1947) published data on this species from other parts of Europe. The Particoloured Bat is known from the territory of the present Hungary, beginning with 1896. Since then, it was recorded in a good number of cases with, however, many years or even decades of lacunae. The known localities were listed in an other paper of mine (TOPÁL 1954). Now it became necessary to complete the data and to add new records, partly because of the inclusion of some specimens collected by VÁSÁRHELYI in the thirties and fourties in the northern part of Hungary, and because of a specimen formerly listed in my paper (TOPÁL 19 54) as Eptesicus nilssoni and which proved to be Vespertilio murinus, further, for some specimens found in owl pellets (SCHMIDT & TOPÁL 1970/71), and finally because of the occurrence of two new specimens in Budapest. The list of the Hungarian specimens of V. murinus in the Collection of the Natural History Museum is as follows. 1. No.2445/24 ?
