Topál, Gy.: Some observations on the nocturnal activity of bats in Hungary 139-166. o.

In the Pisznice Cave, this species left its shelter always mixed among the individuals of the two more frequent hats, and took an intermediate place also with regard to the period of time. Thus, for instance, the first specimen (also netted) flew out at 2035 on 19 june, 1957» and the earliest one again appeared at 2011 on 31 July, 1959. These two exact data mean 50, respectively 33, minutes after sunset. On 11 September, 1963, there were only Miniopteru s specimens staying in the Cave, hence the data of Table 1 refer to this species. Their activity in the cold weather at that time was entirely similar to that of a rainy summer night. There v^re always a number of animals returning to the cave. I have observed their exit from the Abaliget Cave on two consecutive April nights (see Table 1). In that year, April weather was mild, and the bats were thus regularly feeding (except for Myotis oxygnathu s), demonstrated also by the fresh guano found under their group. I was late for the first time, and their departure had already probably began somewhat earlier. This was also the time when I observed that a Miniopteru s specimen, whose wing received a hole in an accident and thus gave a characteristical whistling noise during flight, returned after a stay of 45 seconds in the free and had not again attempted to leave the cave on this night . Also at the time of the morning return to the Pisznice Cave, Miniopteru s took an intermediate position between Myotis myoti s and Rhinolophus euryal e. The first returning animals appeared 51-53 minutes before sunrise at the end of June, 72 minutes at the end of July, and 85-92 minutes in the first days of August. I was unable to establish the duration of the return flight, or its finish, for this species. According to my meagre data concerning Bptesicus serotinu s , this species began its exit flight 84 minutes after sunset in Miskolc (see Table 1). I bagged the first appearing specimens at 2035 on 10 June, 1964, in Hubertlak, and at
