number of papere by JORDAN and CH. ROTHSCHILD, as well as those published by HOPKINS and M.ROTHSCHILD (1953,1956,1962) referring to localities outside of Hungary. Alas, Hungarian Siphonapterologlcal investigations were rather unfortunate from their very inception, and this is why our earlier informations have been so scanty in this field of research. The majority of KOHAUT's notes and MSS have been lost unpublished, A part of his private collection, at least as far as I know, found its way into ROTHSCHILD'S collection. CSIKY had collected flea species until his death, and he even made preparations to publish his results, but, owing to his many-sided entomological activities ,this was not realized. Nor did there remain any data on the material collected in Hungary by Prof. P. PEUS ; the collection was annihilated during the war in 1945. - As a crowning misfortune, the conflagration in 1956 in the ZOOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT OP THE NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM destroyed the Siphonaptera Collection and the annexed library. I have also omitted those earlier literature data which refer to some common species, without locality or host data, listed in some general faunistical papers, nor those which are simply the repetition or summaries of already published data.
