Every year the National Tournament Executive Committee, fulfilling the decisions of the Board of Directors, looks for new improvements to make a better and bigger tournament. Every, thing within reason is done by the Committee to assure the complete success of the yearly national event and to satisfy both the bowlers and the guests. Great is the responsibility of the National Tournament Executive Committee to our sports-loVing membership. Our bowling leagues and teams, however, must share in that burden. The main share of the leagues and teams is the EARLY initiation of their bowling program, not to forget REGULARITY of schedule to keep up player interest. After each tournament there is much curiosity expressed as to where the next such spectacle will take place. It is in September when the Board of Directors considers the geographic reality of the next tournament, after, of course, first reviewing the previous tournament for necessary facts and for findings of interest to the next tournament. The conclusions reached by the Board of Directors are based largely on the recommendations of the fact-finding National Tournament Executive Committee, including the location of the next tourney. Usually this is announced in the Verhovay Journal soon after the September meeting of the Board of Directors. At the beginning of every bowling season inquiries reach us from members seeking information on how to get a team or a league started. To help our branches organize teams or leagues, we insert the following information which, we believe, can be of real aid to your bowling plans: If your branch does not have a tenpin bowling team but would like to form one, the proper and best place to turn for assistance is your City Bowling Association. This organization is a branch of the American Bowling Congress, and its relationship to the parent body is similar to our own branch-Association setup. City Bowling Associations are located in almost every town or community where bowling alley establishments exist. Each association has a regular body of officers, as president, secretary, treasurer, etc. These bowling leaders are charged with regulating the tenpin activities of their localities in the interests of the American Bowling Congress, and one of their paramount functions is help in the organization of teams and leagues. The secretary, especially, gives whatever assistance is necessary in team organization, or, in the case of four or more teams in a branch, the organization of a league. Also, if you have one team only and wish to play in an A. B. C. sanctioned league which will admit your team to its membership, the City Bowling Association is of service. The City Bowling Association is serving to help all tenpin bowlers organize and play under the sanction of the American Bowling Congress. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO CONTACT THE OFFICERS OF YOUR PARTICULAR CITY BOWLING ASSOCIATION, GO TO ANY ONE OF YOUR LOCAL BOWLING ALLEYS FOR INFORMATION. THE MANAGER WILL GIVE YOU THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF THE OFFICIAL TO CONTACT. Here is an example of what can be donee In the Pittsburgh district, any branch wishing to get together a team or a league need only to contact R. R. Diliinger, 1729 Chartiers Avenue, Me Kees Rocks, Pa. Mr. Diliinger, who is our tournament secretary, is also secretary of the City Bowling Association of Pittsburgh. Years ago, when we inaugurated our bowling tournaments, it was the aforesaid association, and principally Mr. Diliinger, who gave us the technical advice essential to the organization and promotion of our tournaments, and who every year give us the technical guidance that guarantees the finest performance in sports. The paragraphs above deal with American Bowling Congress sanction for male bowlers. The same information is entirely applicable for female bowlers except that their sanction is under the auspices of the Women’s International Bowling Congress. The W. I. B. C. maintains City Bowling Associations for women bowlers throughout the country, just as the A. B. C. does for men bowlers. It is our sincere and hopeful advice that you contact the officials of the City Bowling Associations for their services. Their expert knowledge and cooperative advice will make your bowling program successful.
