PAGE 12 Verhovay Journal July 20, 1955. MINUTES OF THE DISTRICT SESSIONS Emery Készéi recommends chapter 4, section 30 be changed as follows: (ED. NOTE: All words, phrases, etc., in bold face, are Mr. Keszei’a changes or interpolations, and the rest of the text from the Amendments to the Bylaws.) “Members of the Board of Directors, the Auditing Committee. National Officers, Home Office Employees, members of the Disciplinary Committee, and those having a contract, or official assignment, or one regarded as such, from which they derive income, are ineligible to become Convention delegates. Furthermore, if those above named resign, reach the expiration of their contracts or appointments, or are removed from office, they remain ineligible for one year after terminating such office, employment, appointment or contractual relationship. “Should any delegate or alternate delegate subsequently die, resign or should he move permanently from the territory embracing his district, or be sentenced by the Council of Appeals to forfeit his office, or for any reason cease to be a member in good standing of the Association; or should he be elected National President, a Director, or member of the Auditing Committee, General Counsel, or member of the Disciplinary Committee or Council of Appeals; or should he receive a contract or assignment, official or understood, from which he derives income, he shall lose his mandate and a new delegate or alternate will be elected to take his place. “This substitutes’s mandate will last as long as the original delegate’s term for whom he is the replacement.” II. Proposal of Készéi: Amendment to chapter IV, points 36 and 37: “The National President, the two vice presidents, members of the Board of Directors, members of the Council of Appeals, members of the Auditing Committee, or National Officers may not be elected from such Convention delegates who have a contract with the Association or official assignment (from source other than from the Convention), if the performance of duties relative to the contract or assignment results in a salary or contributions from the Association. Understood here are the district managers, assistant district managers, field supervisors, officially appointed or regarded as such, doctors examining applicants for membership for the Association. The above named are considered as paid employees of the Association, therefore they are not eligible for participation in the direction of the affairs of the Association and enforcement of its Bylaw's.” Reason for Motion: “The members of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association, who are the owners of the Association, rightfully expect that the society be led by independent officers, who understand and show a wholehearted interest in the affairs, of the Association, w'ho from, frequent contact with the members, understand their wishes, enjoy the confidence and respect of the members, and do not use their position for personal gain or advancement.” Joseph Drotos moves acceptance of the above two proposals made by Mr. Keszei. Joseph Arvay seconds the recommendations. Chairman Keszei asks the meeting: Do you accept these two proposals? The meeting unanimously accepts both proposals. Both proposals will be introduced at the Convention. Chairman Emery Keszei asks whether there are any more motions. None. He thanks the large group for the interest they have shown, for their co-operation and patience in the discussions. He begs them to maintain the inspiring brotherly feeling which will assure the development and strength of Verhovay Fraternalism. With these concluding words, he adjourns the meeting. —EMERY KESZEI • —COLOMAN BERTALAN District Chairman District Recorder District 18 The meeting is held on June 12, 1955 at 2:00 P.M. in the Verhovay Home, Cleveland, Ohio. . The session is called to order by district chairman Emery Kovach, after which the letter of instructions from the Home Office is read by district recorder Ladislaus J. Dus. A proposal is made that the Bylaws amendments be discussed at this meeting so that the delegates receive proper information. A heated debate follows whereupon the district recorder reminds the assemblage that this question was studied on two previous occasions. A committee for the purpose of making Bylaws amendment suggestions is still working on this point, which when completed will be submitted to the branch for approval, and this in turn be charged to the duties of the delegates. A counter proposal is made to the effect that this meeting not deal with the question of Bylaws, but that those having questions or suggestions should put them in writing and submit them to the district recorder for discussion at the next meeting of Branch 14. The results of the election of delegates are as follows: Elected Delegates: Joseph Szalay, Joseph Hegedűs, Emery Kovach and Joseph Semetko. Elected Alternate Delegates: Julius Juhasz, Joseph Cristof, Joseph M. Toth and John Bozsvay. The newly elected are congratulated by Director Coloman Kolozsvary. The meeting is adjourned. —EMERY KOVACH —LADISLAUS J. DUS District Chairman District Recorder District 20 The meeting is held on June 5, 1955 at 1:30 P.M. in the Hungarian Home, Akron, Ohio. The session is called to order by district chairman Bela Takacs who greets the delegates and request their credentials. John Szász, district recorder, reports that credentials are in order for the following delegates: Michael Gergye, Branch 63, John Mazalin, Branch 64, Bela Takacs, Branch 91, Stephen Toth, Branch 91, Joseph Darago, Branch 355, Anthony Knefely, Branch 418, Mrs. Albert Czomba, Branch 487, John Kamany, Branch 533. Chairman Takacs asks the co-operation of the delegates to assure a successful meeting. Recorder Szász reads the minutes of the last meeting, which are approved. Mr. Knefely makes the motion that a vote of thanks be recorded in the minutes for Mr. Szasz’s long loyal service. The motion is carried and is recorded. \ The chairman then announces the election of officers. Mr. Knefely makes a motion that John Mazalin be elected temporary chairman. The motion is unanimously carried. Mr. Mazalin, therefore, assumes the chairmanship until the elections are completed. Joseph Darago nominates Bela Takacs for district chairman and Stephen Toth nominates Anthony Knefely for district recorder. Mrs. Albert Czomba makes the motion that the nominations be closed and the nominees be voted into office by unanimous acclamation. This is done by the meeting body. The new chairman reports on the decision of the Home Office as regards the dues of John Szász, and the matter is approved. Individual discussion of a question brought up by Mr. Takacs is followed by the approval of the delegates. Mr. Mazalin proposes that the Convention delegates protest for the restoration of dividends on old certificates, and this is approved by the meeters. Delegate Darago makes -a proposal that the Home Office extend the branch expense fund with an additional 5 cent contribution. The proposal is accepted. Mrs. Czomba’s proposal that Convention delegates with $500 of insurance be permitted to represent their constituents is accepted. John Mazalin’s proposal, that the merger with Rákóczi be approved by this district meeting, with the provision that the Verhovay members retain all their present rights, is unanimously accepted. District_j2bairman Takacs thanks the delegates for their courteous co-operation and adjourns the meeting. Expenses for the meeting: $246.75. —BELA TAgA.CS —ANTHONY KNEFELY District Chairman District Recorder Branch 23 The meetiiig is held on June 12, 1955 at Middletown, Ohio. The representation at this session is as follows: Edward Bencsik, Branch 69, Anthony Krista, Branch 114, Stephen Botos, Branch 192, Michael Sneer, Branch 230, Alexander Toth, Branch 236, Ralph Hankosky, Branch 344. Not represented are Branches 186 and 559. Stephen Botos, district recorder, asks to examine credentials and find them all in order. He then announces election of officers. Anthony Krista and Stephen Botos are by acclamation elected district chairman and district recorder, respectively. It is noted that the amendments to the Bylaws as sent out by the Home Office were accepted by the majority of the branches at their December meetings. The proposals and objections of some branches have been rejected by the Home Office with the explanation that the Bylaws are formulated to the requirements of the Insurance Department, also the Board of Directors has already accepted them. The 23d District delegates accept the Branch 230 comments on the Bylaws amendments and instruct the Convention delegate to study them and uphold them. . , This district further believes that the Board of Directors has no right to change the Bylaws, this matter should remain within the jurisdiction of the Convention only. This district also is of the opinion that it is hardly logical that a Verhovay member with a ,$500 certificate be permitted to hold a branch officer’s position when the same amount of insurance deprives him of the right to go to the Verhovay Convention as delegate. Elected by acclamation are Stephen Botos, Convention delegate, and Edward Bencsik, alternate delegate. The next district meeting will be held in Indianapolis, Ind. The meeting is adjourned at 2:00 P.M. by district chairman Krista. —ANTHONY KRISTA —STEPHEN BOTOS District Chairman District Recorder District 25-B The meeting is held on June 12, 1955.
