BRANCH 15 - CHICAGO, ILL -SENTINEL By: Ernest C. Taylor, District Mgr. As I write this, I keep thinking of the month of May coming and going fast, and now June is upon us, with its glorious days of sun shine and all the fellows and girls with fishing or golfing fever. Our May Dance was not quite thel success that we hoped it would be, in my estimation a rather disappointing turn-out for Branch 15. Buti we sincerely hope that our June Picnic will be a much more successful affair. S. Nevicky 118101 101 — 320 J. Farkas . 88 90 86— 264 H. Simon 95135 130 — 360 F. Salyi 138127 104 — 369 B. We gave them a so-called “swamping.” The following are the results ■of this match. The following is a letter that was given to me by our new Bowling League President: “Dear Branch Managers or Bowling League Officials, of Milwaukee, Wise., East Chicago, South Side of Chicago, Gary, and South Bend, Ind.: To introduce myself I am the New President of Branch 15 Bowling League, my name is Paul Hetzel and my address is 4107 West Carroll Ave., Chicago 24, 111. Phone Sacramento 2-5386. I would wish to hear from the above mentioned branches concerning match games between our Branches for the coming bowling season. If you are interested please contact me by letter or phone and I will be only too glad to set up any and all match games, as the time permits. I want to thank Branch 130 of E. Chicago, Ind. for the swell match games we had with “them. I sincerely hoped that they liked our dance afterwards and everyone had a good time. I sincerely hope that we will be able to get tog-ether for some match games this coming season.” Fraternally yours, Paul R. Hetzel The Verhovay National Bowling Tournament is a thing of the past as I write. I am very happy to report that Chicago did it again as our boys came through for the team championship, and I understand that on the unofficial tabulation several of our teams are in the money. I do not know how the doubles and singles turned out, but I hope that Chicago will be very well represented in these also. As far as yours truly went in this tournament, I could not have hit the side of a barn had I been standing on top of it. I had the pleasure of meeting Jim Fodor’s mother who came here on a visit from Los Angeles and stayed for our tourney and banquet. She is apparently well-known in Chicago, for I saw several of the fellows go greet her when she stopped by the bowling alley on one of our nights before the tournament. We also had in town, from L.A., Mr. and Mrs, Peter Kovács, the uncle and the aunt of the Tarr Boys. I was happy to see Mrs. Tarr taking an active part in the festivities after the bowling tournament. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Bero are the proud parents of a new son Steve Jr., who was born April 28, 1955. His dad has already enrolled the boy in Verhovay. I am happy to report that Mary Ellen Gray is agiew member, also the John Benediks youngest son, ■ Robert. Guy N. Farley, the newest addition to the Puskarits family, is another new member. Finally, we have the pleasure to report that Wally Lasota and Albert Hetzel are now in the Verhovay ranks. AT THIS TIME I WANT TO TAKE TIME TO THANK ALL THOSE MEMBERS WHO GAVE ME LEADS FOR NEW MEMBERS AND ALL TH^E OF YOU WHQTOOK ADDITIONAL INSURANCE, AS WITHOUT YOUR HELP I COULD NOT HAVE THE SHOWING THAT WAS CREDITED TO ME BY THE HOME OFFICE. As I stated in my previous article, I would like to go on a vacation for the first time in two years, so you good folks please bear with me as I will, in all probability, be gone the first two weeks in July. For the benefit of those that will need the services of this good office, please contact any one of the following officials; Mr. Wm. K. Feifar, Mr. Andrew Janovics, Mr. Louis Fodor or Mr. Frank Balogh, who will do their best to take care 9i you in my absence. If for any reason you should have to have information that they cannot give to you, please write to the Home Office in Pittsburgh. I am sure that they will gladly take care of you till my return. The “rumor department” has it that a couple of our younger set will take their vows next May, so that two more of the fellows will leave the ranks of the bachelors. Lots of luck to you boys in your new ventures. At this time I would like to tell you that the Rickett’s did come through in our bowling league and that they are the League champions. To Charles Stuparits and his Stuparits Wreckers: Congratulations on the National Bowling Tournament Team Event, I hope to see that big trophy soon. I am going to cut this article here as I am just getting over the grand week end that we had here in Chicago at the Verhovay Tournament- Fellowship Days. Real Action Photograph of Branch 15, Chicago Bowlers Several bowlers from Branch 15 are shown above as they rolled their first ball, opening the tournament Saturday at 9:00 A.M., May 28th at the Congress Recreation Center. Branch 15 was represented by a record number of teams, both in the men’s and women’s division. 1 if[Kl H]Quaker City Flashes BRANCH 76 — Philadelphia, Pa. Saturday, May 28, 1955 will long be remembered by the bowlers of the combined Phila-Dalarda Verhovay Bowling League. That was the night the annual bowling banquet and dance was held, and it was an occasion when the jovial spirit predominated. The delicious dinner was served by the Dalarda Ladies’ Auxiliary whose splendid efforts deserve our whole-hearted thanks. The past season had many pleasant surprises. The attendance was regular and the cooperation praiseworthy. The perennial champions, the Reds, were defeated by the Blues the last two weeks, after leading up until then. Such turn of events was hard to accept. OUR APPRECIATION IS EXPRESSED TO ALL WHO MADE THE PAST SEASON A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL ONE. MAY WE UNITE AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER. Fraternally, STEPHEN SZEMES, JR. Mgr.
